| I picked up lots of little bits of info from it but then i read it about 18 months after i read my first poker book ! I thought it was not a bad read it is just i was a little dispointed that i was not hit by lots of " revelations " about the game ( like i am when i read Malmuths poker essays ! ) I would say for a beginner Slansky. Lee Jones and Brunson are the 3 to read for learning Hold Em' ( but others might disagree) Welcome to UPF ( i have been away for a couple of weeks and don't recognise the name ! ) and best of luck learning !!!!! | I would say read the theory of poker first, sklansky, and plan on reading super system at some point, the game has changed a little bit but the hold em section are very good. I just finished Phil Helmuth's book and I cannot play the way he does, however it was still worth reading. you should have a number of different books. | ||

| In my opinion--it's really just an anthology. Not a bad read -- a bit over-over-priced. However, you want something entirely digestible? Go for George Percy's "Seven Card Stud: The Waiting Game." I bought if for $8.95. It's a sweet little green book you'll pick up over and over again. Brunson--borrow it from the library. Read it. Spend some time playing and then decide if its actually worth owning. It is written in the forward that no woman shall ever win the World Series of Poker. That makes it a no-sale for me. Saves me 50 bucks. :) My guess is he'll be proved wrong...in due time. | ||

| I really enjoyed Super System. But it lacks the same thing that most books by pro's lack, an emphasis on how reading opponents makes all the difference. While Doyle mentions this (and most do), I don't think he (or anyone else besides Roy Cooke or Mike Caro) stress it nearly enough, nor do they explain how to do it . There is alot of great information in that book, especially for No Limit Hold'em. Mark | ||
