| I played in a friendly tournament yesterday at a buddy's house. 20 people showed up, and I'd guess that only about half of them were at all decent players. Everyone started with T500, the blinds were 5 and 10. I limp in middle position with Ac 9c. The button limps and the big blind sees a free hand. The flop is Kc 10c 9h. The big blind checks and I bet the pot, 30. The button was a super fish that I had played with before. He never seemed to raise unless he really thought his hand was better, and he rarely raised unless he had 2 pair or better. Anyway, he raised it to 60. The big blind folded and it was back to me. I called the 30. The turn was an offsuit 4, no help. I checked and he bet another 60. Something told me he might just have JQ and I was drawing to 9 outs, not 14. I knew that even if I hit an ace or a 9, I wouldn't feel comfortable calling him if he made a monster bet. It was still early and I felt like I had plenty of opportunity to chip up. Would you call the 60 here? I chose to let it go and wait for a better opportunity, although in hindsight, I'm not sure it was the best decision. The other hand occured when we were down to the final 4. I was horribly shortstacked at 575. The chip leader on my left had over half the chips, and the other 2 players had about 1800 each, roughly. The blinds were 100 and 200. I'm in the big blind with Q5 offsuit, and the chip leader makes it 600 to go, setting me all in if I want to call. It's folded to me. Does it even matter what my hand is here? I need to double up either right here or the next hand, or doubling up isn't going to anything. The payout for the top 4 was $500, $150, $125, $100. Sliding into 2nd or 3rd really isn't going to give me a lot more in my pocket, but a chance at winning is a big deal. I ended up folding the hand, hoping to pick up something better in my next hand. It ended up being 10-4 offsuit, and I didn't double though on the chip leader's A-J. After looking back, I think I should have taken the stand with Q-5. Doubling up almost 600 would give me enough to play with for at least 1 more orbit, whereas doubling up with almost 400 wouldn't do nearly as much good. Thanks for the comments. Lee | ||
