| > Can someone please explain to me the advantages vs. disadvantages of playing in a Kill Pot game? Hey Pokerdude. I find it to be a great thing if you are the one who has won the 2 pots to force the kill. LOL. Seriously, if you have a great starting hand, you have the potential to double your money on the hand. Also, many people tend to play scared because of the increased betting rates. I just really try to follow the rules of position and starting hands even more closely. A pre-flop raise IMO has a greater signifigance because most people don't want to call what amounts to 2 big bets. The only disadvantage is of course the opposite of the advantage: You can lose double the money if you finish 2nd. Good luck. DJpoker | ||

| It seems to me the game should give an advantage to the tight player. A tight player is much less likely to win two pots in a row than a player who plays every hand. So you get to enjoy playing against what amounts to extra blind money being put in by the other players more often than yourself. | ||

| For the good player, kill games can be very profitable. Essentially, a kill hand provides more "dead" money in the pot to begin with, so raising with more marginal hands to try and steal becomes much more profitable. For example, if the game is 5/10 and the pot is a kill, there is $17 in the pot to start with the limits at 10/20. If no one has called yet and I am in middle position, I would raise with a hand as weak as QTo t try and steal the blinds as many people don't like to play the higher limit without a great hand. If the kill player is in EP and has checked the hand and it is to you with no one else in yet, almost any hand that you would play is worth a raise in middle or late position. There is just too good a chance you will steal to not raise. So, in kill pots, you should generally raise or fold your hand. | ||

| Exactly! This works particularly well in LL games, like 3-6, because so many people who play at those limits are frightened by the Kill and hesitate to call even with the best hands. When there is a Kill, I also look for exuses to raise the Kill blind, and am frequently disappointed when I receive a hand that I can't even lie to myself over. :) -Moz "The reports of my assimilation are greatly exaggerated." | ||

| The biggest advantage of playing in a kill game is that many players do not understand the fundamentals of a kill pot. There are many players who will actually try to win 2 hands in a row and make a kill pot or who will play very badly on kill hands, not understanding that they play just like regular hands. Anything that causes your opponents to play worse makes the game better for you. | ||
