| I was thinking last night about table image again. Everyone talks about having the tight image so you can pull off steals. Alot of people talk about having the wild man image so you can get more calls. Those seem to be the two most popular. I started thinking about different table images. What about tight passive? When a tight aggresive player bets or raises I am not usually too intimidated although I usually put him on having something. However, when a tight passive player actually decides to bet out or in the extreme case when he raises, that usually spells disaster. We all know the type...only bets when they have the nuts. So what about going to the table, playing tight and passive. Call the players down when you have a pretty good hand (one that you figure will hopefully win) Don't raise with it. Sure you lose some cash here. Never raise the players and just be passive. Then later on raise with the nuts. Take in your cash. Then later on raise with nothing. This sort of play style can be used for awhile and you can start making more steals and actually make it look like you are on a rush. People will start thinking of you as that asshole lucky player who has been calling them down all night and has been getting good cards. Of course they don't know that your rush is all faked by bluffs. Once you get caught in a bluff you can switch gears again to playing a tight aggressive play style now that you have blown your cover. I was thinking that the tight passive play style would be excellent for when alot of your opponents are aggresive players that consider themselves savvy. Against the aggresive players you don't want to be getting into raise wars anyhow, so just let them do the raising for you. And they are decently intelligent, so they will be good enough to consider you a calling station and will not be good enough to catch you on your bluffs. I know it is a completely different type of table image but maybe it would be interesting to try out? Do you think this idea has merit? or do you think that it would just be a -Ev play? |
