Grey,

Welcome.

I've only been to Turning Stone once (for a three day visit on the way to Canada), and from what I have noticed, the room is pretty small so the selection was limited.

The highest game I saw was a $15-30 hold-em game but most of the games were low limit. The competition didn't seem to be tough and I thought that there were more older people there then what I'm usually acustomed to seeing.

But all in all, if it's not too far for you and your in the area, it could be worth checking out.

Well nice to meet ya. Im 18 and live in albany and frequent TS about once a week. They have 1-3, 3-6, 5-10, 10-20, 15-30 holdem and they started up the no limit games again on some weekends with 5-10 blinds and a minimum $300 buyin which is extremely juicy! They got 1-5 and 2-10 stud 8/b. They also have omaha but im not sure of what limits because ive never played them. The low limit games they have are pretty good with usually 2 or 3 tables of 1-3 and 3-6 each. Its not exactly a top notch place but i like it. Its not to bad age wise, the main crowd is prolly over 40 but there is usually a bunch of college kids there losing there parents tuition money. If you got any more questions just lemme know ill be happy to answer!

I thought you had to be 21 to play in the states. No?

BTW, if you're interested in playing in Canada, the age limit is 18 or 19 depending on the province. Ontario is 19. Gambling ages are in line with drinking ages in each province, so 18 would be in Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba, and possibly in some of the marritime provinces. Everywhere else would be 19.

I think at TS the age is 18. They don't serve alcohol so that might be the determining factor.

Hey Grey,

The games at T-Stone blow. There's not enough games or players to allow any type of table selection. You'll be lucky to find one game at your limit.

Poker God claims that they have 1-3, 3-6, 5-10, 10-20 and 15-30 holdem though I have never seen a 1-3 game and the 10-20 game usually struggles to get going. I've also never seen a stud 8/b game or any limit (except 1-5 stud) with more than 2 tables going at once. However, I've stopped playing there and haven't been by in a month or two.

They even have the nerve to charge you a $2 fee for sitting down and playing. You'd be better off finding a nice home game somewhere in Buffalo or going across the border to try your luck.

Not sure about any casinos over the border. The rake for a 3/6 game is $3.

Casino Niagara has no poker room. The three places to play in Ontario that are within a reasonable driving distance for you are Casino Rama in Orillia, Great Blue Heron Casino in Port Perry, and the Brantford Charity Casino. Brantford is my stomping grounds and I can attest to the quality of the game there. Rama and Port Perry are North of Toronto and would probably be an extra hour of driving each way. Buffalo to Brantford is a 1h45m drive each way if you stick to the speed limit. It is 160km (so something in the neighbourhood of 100 miles)

Why is it called a "Charity" Casino? Do the profits go to a worthy cause?

Yes. It is run by the OLGC (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) - so all of the profits go to government coffers and are then spent on worthy causes within the province.

If you're in Buffalo, then it is probably about the same distance drive to get to Brantford as it is to get to turning stone, if you don't mind coming across the border. I can guarantee you that the action at Brantford is great and there are usually some very soft 5-10 games going and often some fairly soft 10-20. Sometimes there are 20-40 games that you wouldn't believe. There is alwyas at least one 5-10, 10-20, and 20-40 going. There are 9 tables which are usually full at peak times and there are also 30-60 and 50-100 spread from time to time. Sometimes 15-30 as well. All limits are of course in Canadian dollars, so that translates to about 75c US per dollar. So essentially the 10-20 is a 7.50-15, etc.

If you want to make the trip up to Brantford some night, let me know and chances are pretty good that Wren and I can be there.
