AK vs junk flop, muriel palacci, 4. Jul 2003 10:32 | ||

| In limit poker if I raise pre flop with AK and the flop is poor junk against one caller I usually fire in bets on the flop and turn if I read the player as having A-x or a middle pair (very often they call a raise with these believe it or not). This seems to work. What should I do in No limit on the flop and turn ? Should I fire in a big bet (5x blind) on flop and hope he folds a small pair ? What do I do on the turn if he calls the flop ?? | ||

| This is where having a good read on your players comes in. Things that will play into your decision are going to be what position are they in? Blind, early, late, after you, before you? These play a HUGE factor in whether you check or bet. Position is everything in No Limit. Are they loose or a rock, are the passive or aggressive? Are they a calling station. If you raised before the flop, and they called, they may only have overcards. This means you may have the best hand. If they don't have a pair, and you bet, they may fold. Especially if they are weak-tight. You need to know what kind of player they are more importantly, then what cards are they holding. You should also ask yourself what do they think of you. Do they think you are a rock??? If you bet, are they thinking if I call him, he will check/fold the turn? (See how this all plays a part, even more so then your cards) In No Limit hold'em you really don't want to see the Turn, let alone the River, if at all possible. Take everything into consideration before making your decision. Remember position is EVERYTHING in No Limit. | Oh yea, also, how many chips do they have. Chip stack is also a huge factor. ALWAYS know exactly how many chips your players have, at all times. This is soooooo important!
