I live in Portland Oregon and I want to play online poker. Does anyone know if it is legal for me to do so?

Thanks in advance!

Hey. I'm in Oregon too and I was wondering if either of you guys have played any casino poker here. I was wondering about the limits at the hold em tables at Spirit Mtn. or Chinook Winds. I'd like to play, but I've never played at a casino before and I'm wanting to keep it super low limit. (1/2...2/4 dollar maybe) Any idea? Thanks.

(And I'm pretty sure it's perfectly legal to play online poker here... but then again I'm no lawyer.)

I've only played at spirit mountain. The lowest tables they run are 3/6 for hold em. 7 stud they run a 1-4 spread limit game. They also play omaha 8 and stud 8 (never played these here). I haven't played the ring games in awhile due to bankroll issues. I was buying in around $80 to enter the 3/6 table which i think was about average. i know that the minimum for the 3/6 and the 1-4 stud game are $30. For my comfort level in the future, I am looking to have $500 in my bankroll
before I wander back.

My most recent trip there was one of the Thursday night No Limit Tournaments..... structure follows in case yer interested

$20 buy in + 5 entry fee
$20 rebuys
$20 addon + $5 bonus add on

20 minute rounds

I had fun, met some nice people, even ran into my old math teacher from eight grade. And I learned a valuable lesson about flopping low set with pockets fives... lol

On a sidenote, if you are into blackjack, Spirit mountain only runs six deck tables, Chinook winds, I do believe run as low as 2 deck.

There is an article on this subject (not Oregon, but in general) at playwinningpoker.com. The article has links to several other articles.

Are cardrooms legal? i f so, then online POKER is, in the latest opinion from 2 legal sources--Nelson Rose--who writes for Card PLayer-- and in this issue of online poker news, available free through cardplayer online--there is a 2nd opinion.

Well, the law hasn't really made a decision on that one yet, which basically means that there is a 0% chance you will catch any flak over it if you do play online and it would be illegal for them to snoop your network activity to know if you are anyway. So yeah, go ahead. Is it technically "legal"? Well, until they come right out and say, "No. You can't do that." then it isn't illegal. When you play online you are basically gambling on a computer in Costa Rico or Nevis or some such place, where there are no laws. The fact that you are doing it remotely is pretty much irrelevant.
