| What's up with Party Poker? Growing pains is one thing but this is ridiculous. They seem to be totally bottlenecked and virtually unplayable. | ||

| You're right PairTheBoard. It's gradually becoming a major problem. I truly believe that they should put a maximum on the number of play money tables. Have you ever noticed just how many of those there actually are? The time-outs, delays and server crashes are becoming a daily routine. I think I'm going to e-mail them about the problem and include the above suggestion, and once they reply, I'll post it here. | ||

| I have been playing over there as well and I cannot take it any longer. It is way to slow every other player is timed out. I love the players but hate the site. Also the showdown with the cards at the end is so quick half the time I don't even know what happened. | ||

| It is also clear that "nobody" at any site could imagine this sort of growth at PartyPoker. I mean, it is ridiculous to compare play there a year ago and now; it is like comparing the population of Soledad, California with Manhattan, N.Y. The TV publicity has created a tidal wave of new players and I am lead to believe they are working hard to install new equipment to handle the load. Remember that even last year, they were growing pretty strongly and had some very real problems whenever they ran a "big" tournament. I was in most of the semifinals and one had to be rescheduled. The PartyPoker folks came through though, ... not only did it get rescheduled, but they beefed up the prizes and also scheduled a special freeroll for all players in the semifinal. I seem to recall they also threw in a whack of PartyPoker Millions freerolls too, ... but I do remember all players feeling well taken care of and mollified. Great site with headaches ... give them time to get the equipment in. flintsword | ||

| I think you are right flintsword. Certainly they must be extremely motivated to do the buildout asap. They know they are losing money and customers every day they cannot accomodate the customer traffic. It's a great place to play when they are up to speed. | ||

| LMFAO or are you trying to be serious? And in that case ... LMFAO! Let's see ... they have 300 real money tables going on 24/7 and could be running 1000 if they had the servers and bandwidth. That's 60000 hands per hour with an average rake of at least $1. So we multiply 60000 by 24 and again by 365 to see a potential earning of $525,600,000 a year on the rake alone. I don't know about you ... but for a mere $500 MILLION I would not just dissapear one night. | ||

| There must be more happenning there than just the customer traffic. I just logged on and they only have about 30 tables going. Maybe they are in the middle of some kind of hardware-software changeover. They really should post a banner message letting their customers know what's going on. They had one saying there were connection problems with people from certain countries, but that really doesn't look like an explanation for the problems. | ||

To quantify the challenge they have faced, consider this---2 months ago before running commercials on WPT, they and the other top sites like Paradise were peaking at 2,000 to 2,500 players. This past week Party was having between 8,000 and 8,500 players. No one could have anticipated that kind of an increase and now they are playing catch up. By the end of July, I would expect 10,000 or more players during prime time. I know they are trying their best to get this problem solved, but it will take time. i think their best move would be to pull the TV spots until they do catch up. Wait till this tidal wave hits the B&M cardrooms. By the way, Paradise has not seen much of an increase, they should start running TV spots. Gary

It is called a massive lack of bandwidth. The only solution is to purchase more and there may be no more to purchase where ever their servers are located. All the new servers in the world won't help if you don't have the pipe to move the data in and out of them. Paul Stine College Station, TX

| Paul, you have hit it exactly. They are based in the Dominican Republic and it is logical to me that bandwidth would be a prime problem. Ok, I don't want to slag the Dominican Republic, but based on my observations there while on vacation, ... Ahem, ... it is not the most "free" society you could imagine. Some local official is holding up permits for extra hardware or (more likely) the island customs officers holding up new equipment to extract more duty (official and unofficial) is a way of life in the Caribbean. Short-sighted, but I could see it happening. One thing is for sure: PartyPoker is a serious business now, and I am confident that heaven and earth is being moved to solve the problem, ... including moving it out of the Dominican Republic if the problem is local in nature. flintsword | ||
