| I play a lot of online poker and I am hearing the term "nice hand" or "nh" too much. I know people are trying to create a nice friendly atmosphere, and I like that, but when someone in hold 'em calls two raises with a 3 8 os and wins, it still is not a "nh". just thinking outloud =) "nice hand" | ||

| Well, I've noticed so far that some people say that to every winning hand. They seem to think that's jus tproper online etiquette. But often, when I see a solid player say that to the fish that just sucked him out with a 72o, what he usually really means is, "You're an idiot, and a complete waste of flesh, but keep playing hands like that please." At least that's how I usually mean it. ;) -Moz "My name is Homer. I'm only here 'cause the court made me come." | ||

| A good example of "less is more" ... Though honestly I find your posts with content more interesting 4 POKER ... :) Also ... Consider this point of view, Ok, ... So there is player X who plays ANY two cards and bets them. Is he happy? He or she clearly doesn't know any better. Those cards might have been a stone cold bluff and they got caught? Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Mike Caro makes a big point about the fact we - as theoretically better players - should be DELIGHTED to have a player betting random garbage in our games. You WANT a player like that to be pampered and happy, ... and playing. So instead of sarcasm, ... congrats might be in order. You treat them well also with silence 4 POKER. That player might as well be handing his wallet to you directly. Silence is good too, but it seems that the worse players really warm up to sincere chit chat. Remember, you are there skinning squirrels but player X is here to have fun and pay for the privilege. I close with the EXCELLENT article by Daniel Negreanu on the subject, the title appropriately is: "8-3 Offsuit is Cool !" www.pokerpages.com/articles/archives/negreanu13.htm flintsword | ||

| That's how I feel 4 Poker. Making comments is a little like showing your cards when you don't have to. Like Al Pacino in Devil's Advocate, I want to be the guy they never see coming. I recently was in a game where a player flopped a Royal Flush though. I figured THAT was worth a "Nice Hand" comment and couldn't resist making it. | ||

| I do say nh to fish who have won a pot that they otherwise shouldn't have been in. why not? Do you want to aggravate them and make them leave before they donate all that $$ back to the pot?? I even add a "well played" in there too so they think I am serious. Never underestimate the earning power of a few niceties at the online table. | ||

| Actually if I want to compliment a player I will say "Nice Play". Meaning he played his cards well. I have been bluffed big in a No Limit Sit and Go. Player makes a big move on me with nothing and I fold them. He shows his laundry. I don't get mad. I think "Damn, this guy put a move on me and made me lay them down." And I respond back with "Nice Play". Same thing when a guy slow plays me and I end up betting it out for him. I'm not too arrogant to give someone credit for playing well. TKarrde | ||

| I wasn't implying (or didn't mean too) that you were too arrogant to recognize good play. Just wanted to point out that stroking the fish isa the best way to get them to stay and to puke the chips back into the game. I LOVE reinforcing bad play from others. | ||

| Oh no no no. I didn't take it that way. I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I hardly ever ever ever say "nh". I think it is stupid. It's not like the player DID anything great to get the cards he got. I just wanted to say that if I make a comment it is about a players play. And I NEVER bad mouth a bad play. Or talk trash. That just ain't me. Besides if I got two or three games going I wouldn't want to waste the effort. TKarrde "You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! | Perhaps when somebody does that you need to say "nhm". If asked by the newbie you could say that it means, "Nice hand man," but anybody who knows better would know that it means, "Nice hand, moron." Just a thought. | ||

| After reading this, I used 'nhm' last night on ub after someone busted me big with a freak draw. I think the guy figured it out, he started apologizing profusely and trying to explain his play... it was kinda awkward... but funny. -Moz "My name is Homer. | My friend and I developed a "showdown hand-niceness system", which amused us for a little while. Here it is: 2-pair or less - don't say anything. Not really a nice hand! trips - "nh" straight - "vnh" flush - "vvnh" tight - "vvvnh" quads & up - "vvvvnh" We stuck to the system faithfully for a good hour or two of play at the same microlimit table. We'd alternate - for 15 minutes or so, I'd do the nh-ing. Then he'd do it. No one seemed to catch on. :O) Oblivilicious. | ||
