| Fold if you have nothing, check and call to see the next card, get into a raising war with your strong hands, also check raise with medium to strong hands more often. This usually quietens them down. For practice, play online on a play table (short handed is best), where you'll find loads of players just like that. Regards, Allyc. | ||

| Most of the time, the issue isn't his poker playing style, it's that he/she has no interest playing at such a low level. Find out, then don't invite him to your low limit games. If you are going to play with him, beating him usually doesn't help. He'll keep coming until he loses all he brought. What will happen is that you'll open up your game, unwisely, and end up getting beat by the other players that are still playing smart......then you'll both be broke. | ||

| you can make alot of money off this type of player. Fold your weak hands and don't draw to longshots, he'll make you pay too much for that to be worth while. Bet/reraise your medium strong to very strong hands. You'll have him beat alot of the time you do this and he will eventually slow down against you when you beat him. Don't be scared of this type of player, just keep re-raising when you have a medium stong or better hand mark | ||

| Play your own cards and isolate. Basically fold all your trash, but anything that is significantly better than a random hand should be raised so as to chase out the other players. Try to get heads up with the maniac and play only good hands against him. Don't pay him off when he has the best hand, but know that he will pay you off handsomely when you have the best hand. Playing against somebody like this can be very lucrative, but also very swingy, so if you lose a bunch, don't feel too bad. | ||

| These type of players are also the types that you want to trap as well. You can also profit alot by just check-calling. You may be able to extract more from him by just check call, check, call, and then either check-raise or bet. Usually against this type, if you decide to just check call with a strong enough hand, you can also do a lot more check raising, too. Of course you want to play really good hands against him, but that should always be your intention, regardless. I wouldn't however let one maniac change the way I played my game though. Just play your hand accordingly and correctly preflop and think about your next step after the flop comes out. Whether he's in the hand with you or not.....you should still be making clear decisions and not get carried away with just trying to isolate this guy once the flop hits. You still have 8 other opponents to contend with here so don't lose sight of that. Isolation works if every body else is tight. But if you have way too many loose players in your game, then I wouldn't isolate this guy (or should I say, try to isolate him) unless I held a hand that I would normally raise and/or reraise with. You can wind up costing yourself alot of wasted preflop bets here and that would be due to lowering your own standards just to try to fit into his. Don't do that, you'll show a poor result. Just play a solid game and if and when your heads up with this guy, then you can try to be a little bit more strategic. You don't always have to be aggresive with this type of player. Alot is to be said by just checking and calling, and I think that play is under-rated sometimes and is not used when it can truly be profitable. 4 POKER | ||
