Should I have called, mongi, 1. Jul 2003 17:00 | ||

| I was playing at a loose-typical 4-8 holdem game and was dealt 7s5s in the small blind 5 players limped. the flop came 2d 7c 2h. I bet and get raised by the big blind(I had not been at the table long, but figured this guy was a pretty solid player). everybody called, I mucked. I figure this guy has either a deuce, a seven with a bigger kicker than mine or possibly an overpair. Plus with this ugly of a flop somebody was slow playing a deuce. The turn came a blank and everyone checked. The river was a blank and everyone checked. The flop raiser turned over pocket sixes for the winner. Everyone else had overcards. I am thinking that my analysis is correct, however, knowing that the pot can not get reraised behind me and getting 14-1 pot odds perhaps I should have just called and see what happens on the turn. | ||

| With that many players left to act, I'd muck this in a heartbeat. I think you did the right thing. Lee | ||

| I would have read the BB for overcards with his raise and he was trying to limit the field to just you and him by raising. He wouldn't raise with a 2 here because he would wait for the turn to do that. He potentially could have an overpair like 88-JJ too and is afraid of the overcards. So, if it had come back to you with everyone folding, I would have potentially made it 3 bets. But, since everyone else called his raise cold, you have to figure you are beaten, so there is no doubt you should have mucked. With that many callers, you could be drawing to just split the pot with the case 7, so not worth the $$. Good fold. | ||

| It's the not the BB raise that you need to fear, but the three players who cold-called the raise. Like shorn said, the player with a deuce isn't going to raise until the turn. When BB raises he is making a play, trying to confront everyone with a double bet to convince them to fold. [Although I've found that this is almost never effective at low limits.] One of the problems of playing with a bunch of loose fools is that you get unreliable information from them -- they aren't smart enough to fold, which leads you to believe that their hands are so good that you should be the one who's folding. Yeah, I'd have mucked this hand as well, with no regrets. Although based on my feeling about the other players I might have check-raised the flop instead of betting out. NiceFella | ||
