reraised with middle pair., mongi, 1. Jul 2003 15:36

Lets say that I limp in with 77 from middle position behind an early limper, the button, and small blind calls the big blind raises and the EP reraises.
What do you do here? Do you fold? Do you call? or do you raise? Does this come down to the odds you believe you will be getting preflop when the betting is done(it may get raised again)? Assume it is a typical 4-8 holdem game. Assume the raisers are solid players.

I am not sure if this is a leak in my game or just a close decision but I would tend to just call here. I don't want to reraise just to get heads up against the two raisers. I am certainly not getting great odds at this point , however, if I do hit my set I will be getting tremendous implied odds. If the flop doesn't hit me I can just throw the hand away unless I am getting the odds to take a card off.

What if my pair was lower like 44 or 55?

I'm curious to hear what others think, but I'd fold. 77 just isn't likely to hold up against the solid high cards indicated by the pre-flop action. If you called, you'd probably fold against ANY ace or face on the flop plus interest in the pot. That's probably going to happen, so I'd save your money...And I'd play the same way for any mid-low pair 44-99.

I tend to let it go after the initial limper makes the backraise. If this is a straightforward player, such a move is most likely AA or AKs. Sometimes it is done with KK or AQs. A deceptive player will occasionally make it three bets this way with certain hands that also play well if everyone limps for the flop, not unlike your middle pocket pair. So you against the delayed aggressor is a trade off with respect to your both playing for the expectation of implied odds. Fold, primarily because you are being told you are behind. Sure the big blind could be raising with AK but not nearly as likely as both players are on non-pairs. Now you're getting 7:2 and it may get capped. You are as such more significantly minus on the EV side preflop, in so much as your preflop call was based on overall table conditions rather than this specific hand.

I fold without hesitation. You are forced to call 2 bets cold getting 4 to 1 odds, and the BB could cap it, so you are potentially looking at 3 bets at 8:3. This just isn't good enough to try and see a 7 on the flop. As Andrew points out, you are at best ahead 52/48, and at worst completely dominated. Save your $$ for a better situation.

Yes, this is clearly a fold.

Without question, fold. Even if you hit your set, what if the flop is something like K-10-7? You still can't feel all that comfortable.
