newgca has a great post on RGP entitled going up theory. It is one of the best posts on what you can expect at the next level and beyond

From what I have heard and from what I have experienced this information is right on the numbers.

I would like to hear opinions on Russ's information concerning this post from our on-site luminaries. Mike ? Roy ? others?....

The problem is, you never know with Russ:

a) If he's lying or not.....
b) If he's clueless or not
c) What he's trying to accomplish (other than, I assume, trying to pimp early for his upcoming book) when he posts something

Hi Timmer

I think it is the best thing Russ has written. I deleted it, but if you wish to reprint it here...Be my guest!

Roy, timmer --

I don't know about the post you're addressing. You'd have to give me a subject line.

But, in general, I think most of the "strategy/public relations" posts from this admitted cheater and, I believe, false accuser have been logically flawed. I have pointed this out before.

Since this person -- who seems very unstable to me and others -- has done great damage to poker and to the fight to keep poker honest (not to mention to the reputations of many honorable people) , and since he demonstrated to me in private conversations only a medium-student-level understanding of poker concepts, I tend to discount posts he makes that declare himself to be an expert.

I think he needs to stop his mean-spirited and libelous posts, apologize to the poker community, beg forgiveness of all those he's admitted stolen from, and begin to repay that money, before we should be obligated to study his strategy posts (sometimes -- as he told me -- written by others he's enlisted) that are often flawed.

Keep in mind that I was the person who brought this man to the public's attention as a possible key to understanding cheating (something he's proven not to be helpful with), so I have a personal stake in this saga -- having invested hundreds of hours in interviews and investigations.

In summary, the post you're talking about might be good. I appreciate your taking the time to bring it to our attention, and -- despite my deep misgivings in this regard -- I will always give extra consideration to any posts you recommend.

Straight Flushes,
Mike Caro

Mike, I couldn't agree with you more on this one.

If poker is going to come into the main stream as an honourable activity that clean cut people partake in on a regular basis (think golf), then people like Russ need to be given a really hard time by the rest of us in order to show that the vast majority of poker players are appauled by his behaviour.

since the guy self-admittedly made much of his money cheating, I don't really take what he says very seriously regarding theory.

Good players don't NEED to cheat.

Of course good players make more money when they do cheat. Men the Master Nguyen has been caught with tournament chips in his hotel room before and he's one of the premium players. I'm sure that he could do very well for himself playing honestly, but that doesn't seem to stop him and his team.
