kill pot question., mongi, 27. Jun 2003 13:39

I was in the big blind and five people had limped in before me. I held 9c 2d and mucked my hand. The guy next to me said that I should always call with anything in the bigblind in a kill pot. I didn't tell him my exact holding but I said I had junk and it wasn't worth the call. He said that I was getting great odds 12-1. I said I was a anywhere from 45-75 to 1 dog to hit, anything worth playing past the flop, and even then I may not be a winner. The killer may still raise, what is the point.

Is there something that I am missing here? Is this guy correct?
I understand that there will be alot of money in the pot before the flop with hands which haven't necissarily shown strenth and I understand there are big time implied odds working here.

I am pretty sure I should lower my calling standards here but do you still call with complete trash?

The guy was a fool. Your pot odds on a kill pot when you are in the BB are the same as your pot odds in the small blind in a regular hand. If you have junk then you should throw it away. You're in lousy position to boot.

You are right in folding the 92...that is streaching it way too far!
