| I was playing a NL Tourney at Party Poker on Wednesday Night. 439 Players to start. It's down to around 90 players and I am probably in the top 10 in chips. I had around 11,100 everyone started with 1000. The blinds were at either 150-300 or 200-400. I get dealt J-J one from the button. First 3 players fold. The fourth player has around 5300 in chips he makes 1400 to go. Next 2 players fold. I call him, probably should have raised though he had just gotten to my table and really didn't have a feel for what type of player he was. The button and the blinds fold leaving just me and him. Flop comes A-A-A, he goes all in for his last 3900. What do you do here? If I call and lose I am down to somewhere around 5800 in chips which would have probably put me in middle of the pack in chip count. If I call and win I'll probably be in the top 5. I know it really comes down to what type of player I'm up against but he had only been there for maybe 4 or 5 hands and he had just bet me out of the last pot when I might of had him beat. I will tell you what I did and how it turned out. | ||

| You should have raised here preflop for a number of reasons. Your jacks don't play well heads up unless you get him all in and they really don't play well three handed. You want to isolate him, put him to a decision for all of his chips, and possibly fold him off something like AQ. What you don't want to do here is call, though there are arguments for folding here as well. I'd say that depending on the table I might push him in, but normally I would just release the jacks and wait for a better opportunity. Now once the flop comes AAA the only ways he can beat you is to have KK, QQ, or the case A. I would say that if he was holding the ace, he would almost certainly play slow, since you have position on him. Chances of him having KK and QQ are pretty slim here too. I'd say that since you can afford to lose if you are wrong, you can shove in here. | ||

| There is no way he had the case A. The bet sounds like a little-medium pair. If he had the A, he would have let someone else bet it. That's a tough read, b/c he also knows the ONLY player who can call him at that point is the player w/ the case A. | ||

| Go all-in, period. As listed, there is 5 cards that beat you, and 4 have to be paired on 29. Jun 2003 10:00 Ron wrote: > There is no way he had the case A. The bet sounds like a little-medium pair.
