| I have asked before and got some great responses, so now that I am about to take the online plunge, please advise on the top 2 websites in your opinion. I am leaning toward Party poker and Poker Room. I have watched those the most and they seem fairly consistent. Please tell me if ones like UB or others are better. I know it depends in most cases. Thanks for input. DJpoker | ||

| I like the fact that Planet Poker and Ultimate Bet let you play in the "Freeroll's" without having to deposit money, but you can still win real money. | Hey DJ: Been playing at Poker Room for quite some time. Not bad especially if you are primarily interested in Low Limit Holdem. Excellent action at the $1-2 tables, but there is less action at the higher levels, even at $2-4 not nearly as many tables. For NL action or other games like Omaha8 you have to use a different interface through the website, although they say they have a beta download now that can handle everything (but I haven't downloaded it). The tournaments at Poker Room are pretty one dimensional. One freeroll a day with $50 to the winner (limit tourney) and a couple of multi-table cash games. None of the tournaments are NL. There isn't much action at the Omaha8 and NL tables either and I hate using the interface through the website (which you have to do for the tournaments as well - in fact it is a different one than the Omaha8/NL room). In short, I am having much more fun at UB and am opening up an account at Party Poker too. Probably will phase out Poker Room at some point. I will say this: the low limit games at PR have been extremely profitable and you can usually find a table that fits your style, whether you like a loose aggressive maniac room or a loose passive game. There is always a beatable table going on. PR has been extremely profitable for me and I am not an expert player. Also, PR uses the PrePaidATM card that allows you to cash out from an ATM. Nice function. I wish more of the online sites used it. Almost instant gratification. Love it. Also, you get cash back for your player points (100 player points = $1). Nice feature. It adds up for sure if you play alot. But, if you want real good NL action and good tournament action, Poker Room is a cut below Party Poker and UB. As I am more interested in tournaments than ring action (although I play both) UB and Party Poker are more interesting. But if you want mostly low limit ring game holdem action, you can do worse than Poker Room. Their customer service is good too. It just isn't as diverse and fun as UB and probably Party Poker. Hope that helps. MR | ||

| I pretty much agree with mroban on pokerroom, but I believe they now have two multitalbe freerolls a day. I've also done very well at the 1/2 tables at pokerroom (I believe I've sat with mroban a few times). They start out very loose and the sharks just line up (UPF readers and such). After a while though sometimes the table changes character and you end up being at a tight table with 7-8 sharks and 1-2 fish. You just have to see this when it happens and jump ship to one of the other loose tables. Pokerroom is not friendly to tracking software because you can only view one hand history at a time. However, they have one of the best hand history webpages I've ever seen. Once you get one hand from the table you are sitting at, you can use links for the next and previous hands. This is incredibly convenient since you can see immediately after the showdown what players had who mucked at showdown. It's not as nice as having a couple hundred hands in your database on a particular player, but the feedback is immediate and easy to see. I didn't think it was possible to find looser action than at Pokerroom, but on a whim (I thought about the TV ads for party poker and what that would do to Joe Homegame Pokerplayer) decided to give Party Poker a shot. According to my poker tracker game time window I am regularly at tables where 60+ percent of the 9 other players see the flop. I've been at tables where 8 of 10 players have flop percentages of above 80 percent. And there are so many tables there, you don't even bump into the other good players that often (at least never more than 1 or 2 at a table). This is always true at the 0.5/1 tables, but it can also be found at the 1/2 tables (not as extreme, but still at least as loose as pokerroom). I've even found at the 2/4 tables that there are a lot of, let's say, idiots playing. However, at the 2/4 tables you can be sure you will have 2-3 good tight players at the table along with 1-2 total nutcases and 5-6 loose players seeing the flop anywhere from 40-65 percent of the time (way too loose, but not the total nutjobs from the 0.5/1 rooms). I haven't ventured higher than 2/4 yet, so somebody else can comment on that. Just be sure and learn this lesson early (I know I've paid my dues on this often): - when one of those nutjobs suddenly bets or raises on the river, you can pretty much fold anything but the nuts ... well, at least you can assume your AA or top pair A kicker is cracked. He probably was calling to 94o and now has two pair ... or something else dealy to you depending on the board. | ||

| hey Tex, my poker room name is "thenuts123". what is yours? totally agree with the play patterns. Seems the fishy rooms get invaded by good players and the pot average drops in half really quickly. But at night, there is plenty of fish action to go around at Poker Room. I am starting to play at Party Poker on the recommendation of many people here. I am "thenuts123" at both Party Poker and Poker Room and "fulttiltboogy" at UB. Any UPFers say hi when if we are playing together (and I will know not to bet into you). | ||

| I don't know about you Tex, but the kind of table mix at Party Poker is ideal to making money. 2-3 good players, 5 loose passive types and 2 fish = $$$$. Its easy to see early who the good players are, who the passive types are and who the fish are. 4 or 5 hands you can usually pick up a few trends. I have to get started at Party Poker. Does anyone else think the games at UB are much harder? I am having a lot of fun over there, but the level of play seems pretty good for the most part. I probably will use UB mostly for tournament play and NL ring games. | ||

| You are probably right about room composition. I like the "all fish" rooms when I am playing two tables though since I can completely tune out and play my cards. I just download hand histories and check out the new players to make sure I don't get suprised by a solid player. If you play it really tight this seems to work well. I'm still somewhat new to poker and get a little intimidated by the $4 turn and river bets. Also, I have a rather small bankroll at Party that needs to grow. I started out when they recently gave $50 bonus for $100 deposit. Even with doubling that, it still makes me nervous to get too involved in the 2/4 games. At party and pokerroom I have been going by "johnnysmith". I thought I had seem a "mroban" at pokerroom. One last thing about pokerroom: the $2500 added $1 buy-in with no fee multitable event is just incredible. If you win, you'll get about $1000. Top 15 share the $2500 and top 5 share the roughly 780 $1 buy-ins. I managed to finish 8th once and got $85 (thought for sure I would be 16th, but then I got to the final table ... LOL). This alone is a reason to keep $10 to $15 at pokerroom. | ||

| totally agree Tex. And the hand history setup at PokerRoom really facilitates this. I read the hand histories the next day and keep extensive records on all the players and their tendencies. UB has a great hand history set up as well. Much easier to look at it right after the hand is over. | ||

| Thanks for the info guys. It sounds like I should split between Poker room and Party Poker and play low limits until bankroll is increased. By the way they now have 2 freerolls on poker room. Good luck finding Nemo. DJpoker | ||

| I used to play only at Paradise but tried Party on 4 POKER's recomendation. I now only play there. I have never, ever seen games as fishy as there, except maybe at Artichoke Joe's in San Bruno, CA. Definitely take the plunge at one of these sites. With Poker's popularity right now, I can't recall an easier or better time where the solid player (even recreational) can make a ton of $$ in a short period of time with a normal card distribution. | ||

| If you use the casino locator around San Francisco, you can get the directions. They don't have a web link to my knowledge. The action there is unreal. I played in a 6-12 game once and won $800 in 5 hours doing nothing but playing solid cards. Now, they held up too, but long run they should. The 15-30 is even juicier if you play higher limits. | ||

| wow...i will have to get up there sometime. In LA, the 3-6 action at Hollywood Park is the fishiest I have seen, but with a few maniacs in the mix, it actually forces you to play fewer hands. But true no foldem holdem for sure. | ||
