My first winning session!, hudson, 24. Jun 2003 12:57 | ||

| If anyone happened to glance out their window this morning and noticed a fleet of winged pigs flying past, compelling you to reconsider your nightly consumption of tequila, please accept my most earnest apologies; you were not suffering an agave-induced hallucination, I merely logged my first winning session since I began messing with Texas three months ago. (On a similar note, if anyone noticed an icy sensation beneath their feet, ignore that too--Hell was just as surprised as the swine). So as far as my virgin eyes could tell, I played sound and solid Goldilocks poker (not too loose; not too tight) although one particular hand begs some feedback... I limp in early like Verbal Kint with AQo and the button and blinds call with their Glad bags. The flop is Q27 rainbow and I bet; the button and the SB take their trash out to the curb, but the BB calls. I stick him on a Slut (my new favorite nickname for a Lady with weak knees; no misogyny intended, I also like to refer to weak-kicker-Kings as Viagara Viceroys ). I figure that he's smart enough not to pray for a back-door miracle 5-6 but too stupid to trap me with trips. Anyhow the turn and river blank-out and he calls all the way only to blindside me with Q2o. So his lady apparently had even less scruples than I had thought. Anyway, is their anyway to defend my hand in this situation? Perhaps a check-raise that I missed? Why didn't he re-raise, especially on The River? How could he have put me on anything else? I didn't slowplay a single mid-to-high pocket-pair all afternoon from early position and didn't play a single piece of garbage like Q7 either, even it was suited. I doubt that he was inducing a bluff--that would have been Forrest Gumpian intention. I suppose he saved me two bets. Are some players simply too afraid of the dark for their own stack? In the long run, isn't only playing aggressive with the nuts a profit-leaker? Anyhow, the money was eventually returned and I helped myself to all of his when I flopped the nut flush (AKs) UTG and he went raisey-crazy from the button with "T4"s, which I found to be an apropos goodbye. P.S. - Pardon the boastful nature of this post but after spending the past few months handing over my wallet to countless cocky and condescending a**holes, I believe I deserve my Warholian fifteen minutes, all of which, I might add, were enjoyed (at the table, not here in harmless anonymity) with the karmic silence and grace of someone who understands that self-aggrandizement is more costly than losing cash in a silly game of cards. Money doesn't buy class. | ||

| Hudson- Congratulations! It is always great to book a win and your first is really really sweet. As Cartman would say "Kick Ass". As for the AQ hand, that is a tough one. The only thing you might tell yourself after the fish called the turn is what the heck could he have? You are right to put him on a Queen and he hasn't told you (by raising) that he can beat top/top, so you can't be worried. My guess is that he would have played it the same with just the Queen. This is one where you are going to lose some chips but be glad that you didn't lose more. | ||

| Yeah, the only thing you can grit your teeth about while betting is whether he loosley caught 2 pair by holding crap. Turns out he was holding crap, but missed the 2nd pair. As they say, if he continues to play that hand, he'll be broke soon. Good for you not getting drawn out on. We hear more of those posts (losses to Face-Rag), than your post. on 24.
