I was playing with my buddies a few days ago and I changed gears. I have tried to "change gears" before but it didn't really have much impact on the table. This time however it had a HUGE effect on the table. It was really neat. Here is how it went down. We play short handed limit poker. I won some big hands early on and got a pretty big chip lead. Then over the next hour noticed as my chips were slowly leaking away. I wasn't getting payed for my big hands and I wasn't intimidating people with my weaker hands. So I lost more on losing hands, and won less on winning hands. So I decided to shift gears. I started making ridiculous bluffs. I had been betting mostly the same way for awhile and I am guessing that people had gotten used to it and had me figured out. 3 hands within 15 hands I bet exactly like I was holding the top pair with a good kicker (the ace) All three times it went to showdown. My holdings were something like 27o, 38o, and 2Ts. I bet the crap out of those hands and lost the first two, but oddly enough won the last one on a river flush. I lost a lot on those first two hands. But afterwards I quickly shifted my gears back down, and started betting exactly the same way as when i had been bluffing. Every hand that I was in, I bet it the same way. Of course now I was playing way bigger cards and was only playing top pair for the most part. The most interesting part of it was watching how just those 3 hands made the entire table totally under my control. I put 2 of them on tilt, the type of tilt where they turn into calling stations (at least against me). I was the only one who booked a win amongst my friends that day, and it was neat totally blowing them away. I don't imagine what I did would work all the time but man it was super cool and showed me alot about how table image is a HUGE factor in profits. It was a very awesome learning experience and I just thought I would share.
