No...you get dealt one down and one up and get three more face up one at a time with betting intervals inbetween.

Indeed. It is a great game to play with suckers because you can wait to start off with a decent pair and will often know with mathematical certainty that your hand is the best the whole way.

If you want to make it a little more interesting, try it with the last (river) card face down. Now you can end up with two hole cards which may keep some players in the pot longer.

I imagine it would also be fun to play with the first two cards as hole cards, tehn three up. Very similar to your suggestion Andrew, only a little different in texture.

Ever play Canadian Poker? It's got a roll out finish, exposing one card at a time of your own choosing. It also has a rule where 4flush and 4straight hands play. I don't remember the rankings, but I think that a 4flush beats a pair and a 4straight beats a 4flush.

I've played it on a couple of occasions for fun with the boys, but never enough to become good at it and play it for real money.

5 card stud is played with one card down and one card up per player, followed by a round of betting. The rest of the cards are dealt up one at a time with a round of betting after each.
