OK, I've just finished my first foray into the world of poker by playing online at The Poker Club. I started playing on Tue. after doing some reading and feeling confident enough to give it a shot. I deposited $50 and they matched it. After playing about 1-2 hrs a day in the late evening ET and getting in my requisite 200 raked hands I've decided to cash out and move my money to another site. I'm cashing out $101 thanks to a $5 single table tourney I played in today and finished 2nd. Not a big win but I'm happy to be even so far.

The Poker Club just doesn't have very many tables to choose from and I found myself not playing because the games would break down. I would rather go to a site that has plenty of tables to choose from. I am considering Party but here's where the question comes. I have heard that the play is really awful at the lower limits. I've been playing $1-2 fixed and have considered moving down to $0.50-1 to insure what money I have will last. Is it a good idea to go ahead and play at party or am I going to only learn bad habits by observing poor play? Will I get frustrated by the poor play and not want to play? Is the poor play really any worse at Party than other sites? I'm comfortable with my ability to play smart poker but I think it could be real frustrating judging by what I have read here and elsewhere.

I have found that some of the information I am reading becomes much more clear after playing in some live games. I also am gleaming what info I can from the various message boards like this one.

I appreciate any and all comments. I'm sure all of you get tired of reading questions similar to this one but from what I have read so far you all are the most friendly bunch when it comes to sharing info.

Thank You

JP aka Some_Guy

Some:

I play exclusively at Party now and I think your thought process may need to change 180 degrees. You WANT to play at Party BECAUSE there are so many idiots who will play J2o in any position. As a solid player, you have an overwhelming advantage agains these types of players. Over time, you will learn to appreciate this type of table.

Now, you need to be prepared to sit through sessions where your tight aggressove play loses to beat after beat. BUT, if you persevere, you will make a ton of $$ agains these players.

I like your idea of moving down to $.50/$1 to start to ensure that you can last through a run of bad cards. Just play disciplined, solid poker and your bankroll will grow.

Good luck,

Steve

Read my answer to Philly. Planet Poker is the best online by far. I dont work for them I am just a player like you. They are without a doubt the best online site for all poker players at whatever limit you play. You guys have been watching the travel channel to much,LOL.

To each there own. I have heard too many complaints about Planet to give them a try right now and the action at Party is so good that I think it provides the best opportunity for me at this point.

But, if Planet is doing well by you, then by all means stay there.

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you are Some-Guy, except I have a few months of playing at paradise under my belt. Played a little there, was a slight loser, (but since I was new and got a couple months out of it, the experience was great) but at the time didnt have extra money to keep trying, so I took about 2 months off, took a break, read some more, finding sites like here saying party was the easiest, so I decided to give it a try.

Sit N Go NL Holdem is my best game, and I just finished my first game at party. I had crap and saw one flop through 15 hands. The guys were maniacs. Finally after 2 people were gone, someone (who had QJo) raised a 75 dollar pot to 300. Someone else called, I had AKo so decided to go all in, and both of them called. The other guy had 99, I got a straight, and tripled up, eventually getting heads up with someone, whose starting hand requirements were as if 10 people were playing.

We went into heads up at 4,000 each.....I only doubled the blinds as small blind, and she went down to 1,500 chips before she called one of my raises.

I'm not saying I'm a great player by any means..... but the people were just awful as far as I was concerned, and it was at the 30dollar sit n go level.
