Trying to Reverse a Slump in O8, Jeffrey Biship, 20. Jun 2003 14:52 | ||

| Just started playing microlimit O8 online after a longish break. My results had been pretty good (about a 1.5bb/hr) over close to 300 hours. I've suddenly hit a brick wall and have compiled some stats to try to analyze what's going on. Can anyone see anything in the following statistics? 298 Hands Delt (Incl. Blinds) 84 Hands Played (Incl. Blinds) 47 Hands Played Outside Blinds 37 Hands Played in Blinds 24 Showdowns seen Pots (or partial pots) Won 9 Scoops (Incl. Pots Won w/o Showdown) 2 Quarters 1 Three Quarters 5 Hi 1 Lo 3 Pots Won w/o Showdown -31 Win/Loss (Big Bets) If you don't know microlimit online, it's generally semi-loose (4-5 to the flop) to very loose (7+ to the flop) and very passive to passive (preflop raise is rare to uncommon). I've noticed some specific mistakes (usually involving turn and river decisions), and I'll post some hand histories, but do these raw stats indicate a generally too loose or too tight strategy? Thanks in advance, Jeff | ||

| I've been doing pretty well in O8 lately, although I am no expert yet, not even close. I think maybe the thing to do is stick to hands with nut possibilities. Beware of those hands you play in the blinds, sometimes you get something that looks OK, but is really a trap hand which will suck out several bets. Only play the random hands from the blinds when they hit the flop REALLY hard. | ||

| Jeff, From your stats it looks like you may be entering too many pots and from the # of blinds you were seeing through may suggest that you were not releasing them enough times after the flop. It's ok if you get a free peak at the flop when you're in the blind position but the key to winning in Omaha is the ability to release your hand when it doesn't flop absolutely perfect. The same guidelines should be applied when you do chose to enter a pot with a good hand. Although you mat hold a premium hand, if the flop does not hit you good enough, then you must know when to bail out and save those bets for a more opportune ($) situation. (This always means.....to release your hand when the low side is already there and you're not holding the nut low and are trying to win just half the pot with an inferior high hand). The betting at this stage may get too heavy for your holding to continue. Hope this helps. 4 POKER | ||

| 28% of flops seen is too high unless you happened to have a great run of cards. Also, it seems that of the hands that you played, you were seeing almost 50% of them to the end. That is WAY too high. I am no expert at O8, but it is a "nuts" game, so if yu don't have the nuts on the flop or a draw to the nuts (both ways), and there is any significant action, you need to get out. If you were to cut down your showdowns by 1/2, you would have most likely saved all the bets you lost in total. | ||
