| So for those in AC, (I'm especially thinking of 4Poker - are you going to be back soon?) Wren and I are probably going to take a road trip down there to check out the action at the Trop and/or Taj on a long weekend soon. Maybe the first weekend of August (civic holliday) or the first weekend of September (labour day). It would be cool to meet up with some of the good old UPFers while we're down there, go for lunch, spitball some poker theory, maybe head to the bar after a session. So who all plays there regularly and in what rooms? | ||

| Hey Stdioh, I won't be returning to Atlantic City until the middle of September or so. If your plans get changed at all, let me know...sounds cool and thanks. If you do plan to go to AC, the action will be better if you're there during the summer time or even on Labor Day weekend (as opposed to the autumn months)......the place will be kickin'. Now, if you want my honest opinion as to which card room is better....The Tropicana has a great 2-way mixed game, Omaha 8 and stud 8 (a round of each every 1/2 hour) at the $15-30-45 levels and sometimes at the $30-60 level as well. They also spread a P/L Hold-em game every Friday. And as I'm sure The Trop will be busy during those times.....If you guys are really into playing just Hold-em, the action will be better (way better) at The Taj. I don't need to give you any pointers about the games but if you want any feedback as to where to stay, dine, drink, whatever.....let me know. Also, the sooner you can finalize your plans, the better off you'll be because if you plan on being in AC during the summer/holiday weekends, the hotels will cost you guys an arm and a leg and the availability may not be there....so book early you guys. Hey.....I just thought of something. There's a new casino that's supposed to be opening sometime this summer called The Borgota. It's on the marina side of AC (I can give you details on that, too) and they'll be opening a new poker room as well. Heeeeeeey, you guys are gonna see it before me... that's not fair! Anyway.....take care and if you want to contact me you can at capa217@aol.com 4P- | ||

| It seems like there are a lot of people in or close to AC who are up for a get together. Maybe we need to organize an honest-to-god social event? When I find out what is going on, I'll get a list of everybody who wants to get together and maybe we'll all meet up for a meal, head to some of the various cardrooms en masse, and enjoy some Atlantic City nightlife together. I'll let you know when I do. | ||

Re: Wow!, 4 POKER, 19. Jun 2003 18:35

| Hey Chase, I re-read your post and now I understand. (I don't know where my mind was, but anyhoo).... In the Big event, and even in the other tournaments at the WSOP, you will find many players who are either, mostly just tournament players (like Layne Flack, Phil Hellmuth, T.J. Cloutier and such), and they'll also be a mix of professional poker players who play both; ring games and tournaments. Now because this is a costly event/s, the WSOP will attract many of your high limit players, whether they be experienced or not. Many of them who have money just like to play in the big one because of the prestige factor that it holds- they may not even be really good players, they just have the $$ to play in them. Now, the "Big One" will also consist of many players who have won their way in by winning a satellite but that doesn't mean that they're a top notch player. So you see, you'll get quite a mix variety of players in these events; some extremely strong players with tons of tournament exposure, but you'll also find many many inexperienced and/or just plain bad players as well. Any one person has a shot to win a tournament and it's that simple. If you do happen to win a satellite, your odds in winning the "Big One" will not be as high as say, Phil or Daniel, but you'll still have a chance...just as good a chance as almost anybody else's chance would be. Keep in mind that just because someone is playing in the big event, doesn't mean their an extremely strong player. Many just have the money that allows them to play in it, and for sooooo many of the others, they just happened to have gotten lucky enough to win a satellite to be there in the first place. So Yes, most definitely, there will also be a lot of dead money in the final event as well...no question! Look at it this way...this year I think there was around 840 entries for the final event. How many of those 840 people do you really think were top notch poker players?......Not as many as you may think. (maybe 150-200). So it's not just hopeful thinking on your part, Chase. You will have a shot. Just keep practicing the game that you think you might be entering the event in. It can't hurt. 4P- | ||

| Hey tommyhawk, I live in the AC area (actually 5 miles away to be exact), and the drive from Chicago to Atlantic City will be around 13 hours. Now the drive from Missouri to Atlantic City will be a much longer drive for you. It will take you a whole days worth of driving, anywhere from 18 to 20 hours. I know they do have some B&M's closer to where you'll be staying (close to the Chicago area), so maybe you'd want to give that a look into. Anyway...good luck to you and where are you from DJ..... just curious. 4 POKER | ||

| Close to Chicago the choices are VERY limited. First there's Harrah's in East Chicago Indiana, about a 25 minute drive from Downtown Chicago. They have a pretty heafty rake of 10% of the pot up to a $5 max. Good room though. The other option close to Chicago is The Hollywood casino in Aurora. Its a lot farther from Downtown , almost an hour drive and a much smaller room. I'd have to say the games in Aurora are much easier to beat. Good Luck John | ||

(damn, I had a whole list of casinos that I had printed out for my road trip last year and I know that there was one or two in that area, but I'm not exactly sure how far away it is). I'm not aware of any B&Ms in the Indiana area but maybe somebody here can help you with that. (TKardde). 4P-

| I did a search one time on Chicago Casinos. I think there are about 8 in the area. Four on the Indiana side. Don't remeber right off. But you should find on the net. There is also the Belterra and Argosy by Cincinnati. Never been but would like to go to those sometime. Probably 2 hours away for me. If you are from Indy you should be anxious for the Orange County casino to come. A bit more centrally located. Might depend what side of town you are on though. TKarrde "You fool!
