| Are the swings bigger or smaller, I read an article stating that the more decisions you make the more your swings will be determined by your ability. Taking that a step further, would that mean a good player would suffer less swings online playing 2 tables due to the greater number of decisions being made. Your thoughts would be appreciated. | ||

| My take: 3 things can happen while playing 2 games, and 2 of them are not worth playing for. 1. You lose both 2. You break even 3. You win both Playing one table holds your focus, gets you "in" the table more quickly. on 19. | playing 2 tables disables your ability to read the situation at either. Generally, the biggest beneficiary is whomever is collecting the rake | ||

| My brain only allows me to play at one table at a time!! I focus really strong when I'm at the table, (even if I'm not in the hand) and somehow I feel that I might be missing something if I'm constantly going back and forth from game to game....even when both games are on the same screen. Personally....I prefer to focus on one game at a time, but that's just me. I tried it a couple of times and there was one instance where I was playing Stud 8 or better and Hold-em at the same time when I was dealt pocket AA's in hold-em and had the opportunity to cap the betting preflop. Sounds cool, right? Unfortunately, however....I wound up capping the betting at the WRONG game! I was dealt something like Q-8-7 in the stud 8 game and wound up putting in 4 bets with it....ugh. Anyway, like I said, for me.....it doesn't work (as you can see..ha ha). I have a friend who plays up to 3 games at one time and he has no problems with it at all. I'm not sure if he's missing out on some of the important factors or nuances of the games....but at least he has the ABILITY to NOT put in 4 bets with Q-8-7 in a stud 8 game like yours truly!! Let this be a lesson on what NOT to do! 4 POKER | ||

| I actually play two and even three tables at a time. I think it helps me play tight and keeps me from doing stupid things out of boredom. But it can lead to mistakes. And it really limits you from observing your opponents very much. But I'm not to that point yet. TKarrde "You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! | If you are playing with total idiots in a very loose passive game, then you can play multiple tables and play your cards like a robot. If you need to use your brain and play to your opponents, then stick to one at a time. | ||

To muddy the waters a little, I will say that you might want to ask yourself some other questions, too: 1. Would playing the same bankroll over two games minimize your fluctuations? For instance, would playing two $5/$10 games, instead of one $10/$20 game mean that you play about twice as many hands in the same amount of time, and -- thereby -- make your results more stable, just because the odds tend to even out with this larger "sample size"? 2. Will playing two smaller stakes games mean that the competition will be easier to beat (thus countering the reduced attention you can place on each game)? 3. If you play two (or more) games of the same size you previously did (instead of reducing the size), will whatever sacrifice you make in profit by spreading your attention too thin be overcome by having more than one game to profit from? In other words, if you would normally be making $15 per hour in one game, will you make $10 per hour in each of two games, putting your profit expectation at $20 an hour -- or $5 greater than with a single game. Keep in mind that playing in multiple games can do WORSE than just reduce your profit. It's conceivable that, against quality competition, you could fall from a $15 per hour profit expectation to a $3 an hour loss. In that case, it isn't a matter of which way is more profitable -- it's a matter of playing one game and making money or playing two games and not winning at all. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro | ||
