I just chatted with Mike Caro at his table in the tourney. He is "proud" of how quickly they fixed the tournament without "much" damage. Apparently "these things happen." They must happen a lot at Planet. I've put in a fair number of hours at UB and I've never seen their servers crash once. I worked for a dotcom where if we didn't have 100% uptime, we could charge any losses to our ISP - that was part of the contract. Why do I doubt that Planet could refund us our buy-ins and do the same? I would imagine that their ISP is based in a pimply teenager's basement.

This whole thing is a pitiful fiasco.

There are four things I want from Mike Caro right now.

The first thing is an appology.

The second thing is an excuse for why he has to endorse Planet now - a long term contract - anything.

The third thing I want is $20.

The fourth thing I want is for him to swear that he really believes that Planet Poker is a site of reasonable quality and that he had our best interests at least somewhere in mind when he lured us there for a tournament. If he does that, I can chalk him up to being deluded, senile, or foolish. If he doesn't then there are some other things I would call him.

Are you that big of a baby? Do you whine like this all the time when you don't place in a tourney or something doesn't go your way. GET OVER IT!

Not placing is irrelevant. I've busted out of many more tournaments in my life than I have monied in. I'm pissed off at Mike Caro for leading us to that terrible tournament on that terrible site.

And you know what? I have a right to whine about it if I want to. I was happily trying to set up a good tournament that people here would like and Caro slid that piece of crap under our noses instead.

I had that happen to me twice at UB, during sit'n'goes. Both times, I was never able to get back in, and both times they refunded my $ to my account within 24 hours.

There you have it. That's a good enough precedent for me.

You might be one whiz-bang of a programmer, but you'll never cut it as a lawyer. (Not saying you would want to, just saying...)

Now go and think cool thoughts.

I have played at PP for about 8 months. The server crash seems to be a recent problem. This has happened several times to me in the past couple of weeks. During this tourney, for some unknown reason, they were able to reconnect me very quickly. Then we played about 8 hands with only three connected players. I can't complain because I was able to collect several blinds, but it would seem to me the fair to do would have been to restart the tourney (but I can see the problem with that as the chip leaders would have to go back to ground zero, btw I had T180 when they paused the game). Ironically, I was on dial-up and got reconnected without problem.

Don't know what to tell you except that until the last couple of weeks this was not a problem. I was pissed the other night when the entire table was disconnected in the middle of a hand, and I lost the hand (although the disconnect saved me money), lost my small blind on the next hand, and then when we all got reconnected PP demanded I pay both the SB and BB or wait for the BB. I did not file a complaint as it was about $1.00 and I would have lost anyway.

Hey stdioh. My guess is that MC has a long-term contract with Planet Poker. Obviously, that would prevent him from openly criticizing the site for its subpar server, etc. You have every right to be upset over what happened in the tournament. Plus, one need only look at the action chart in Card Player's monthly online poker newsletter to see that Planet Poker simply isn't one of the better sites to patronize. I know you were key in organizing the event, and had the basic tournament structure been a little better i.e. more starting chips, etc., I'm sure there would have been more participants. Several posters here even said they weren't going to participate due to these factors. Anyhow, should you wish to organize something similar in the future I would suggest Poker Stars. They recently held a tournament for the posters on the 2+2 board, and to the best of my knowledge, have no affiliation with that particular site. Yet here, the only ads you see are for Planet Poker, which is obviously why MC chose them to host the tournament. It's just something to consider, and I'm sure Poker Stars would be more than happy to accomodate. Hope this helps, and don't worry about the people calling you a "whiner." Customer service and quality are crucial to any online poker room, and it's because of incidents like the ones you described that Planet Poker is far behind its competitors.

From what I hear Poker Stars is "the best" site online right now for tournaments. And seeing as they sent all those people to WSOP, I"m willing to believe them. UB is good for tourneys from my experience and a number of people seem to like Party - I've played freerolls there and found it perfectly normal.

So it'll probably end up being one of those three and it sounds right now like it'll be Stars. It seems that Paul Stine is taking the leadership position in getting the next one organized and he seems like a clever and reasonable fellow so I have faith in him to do a good job.
