U.S. HOUSE BANS NET BETS

After years of trying, the U.S. House of Representatives last week passed a bill that would restrict U.S. Residents? access to Internet casinos by banning the use of credit cards and other bank instruments to pay for online wagering. Following the 319-104 vote, which came out of three hours? debate, U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl said, "Congress is as close as it ever was to enacting an outright ban on unscrupulous Internet casino operations." The House?s Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act was crafted by Reps. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) and Mike Oxley (R-Ohio). It exempts lotteries and horse- and dogracing tracks in states that authorize those kinds of gambling. That provision led Utah Rep. Chris Cannon to worry that the federal law might override Utah?s state laws against any form of gambling, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. Such concerns could blow crosswinds against the Senate version of the ban, which many observers have expected to have clear sailing

It'll never stick. If people aren't able to do it that way, it'll discourage the deposits, but people will still be able to use credit cards to put money into a paypall like system (though not paypall itself anymore) and then pay the casinos through that. Not only would it be nigh impossible to trace, but it wouldn't be a violation of that law either.

hmm... I haven't read anything since about 3 days before the vote, but the last text I saw on the bill only forbade credit cards drawn on U.S. Banks from approving charges to known online casinos (which all of mine already do). It did not address online bank accounts (like Neteller) and direct deposits.

I believe we'll see a court challenge from the banks themselves if it passes the senate. They don't want the burden of policing their customers in how they spend their money. In the mean time WAKE UP AND VOTE next election day.
