Switching to NL Online, mroban, 17. Jun 2003 09:58

I have been playing (very successfully despite a recent bad run) at Poker Room at the $1-2 and $2-4 tables. I have made over $500 (despite a $150 losing streak) in the past 3 months.

Problem is: 1) I find PokerRoom to be boring. I like tournaments and they have a few multi table tourneys but mostly sit and gos. Fun but getting a bit one dimensional; 2) the ring games lately are feeling kind of lame. Not as fishy as a few months ago, much tighter and less fun as a whole (mostly because of the lack of variety).

Poker Room has the most action at the $1-2 tables and has no NL or PL games.

Which are the best sites for both low limit NL action in ring games and tournaments? I have tested the software at Ultimate Bet and Party Poker and both look to have a lot of great action going on all the time. Poker Stars looks good too.

Also, I would appreciate any advice in switching to NL. I have been reading extensively all the major books about the game and feel ready for a switch (especially in tournament play).

Thoughts?

Thanks,
MR

I like the games at Party and they have both single table and multi-table NL tournaments each day. I usually play 3-6 in ring games, but I think there are always 10 or so 1-2 tables going at a time.

I used to play at Paradise, but the games there are tougher and they don't have the multi-table tourny's which I like.

I think Poker Room does have NL and PL, but you have to go into the separate lobby to get there. I may be wrong, I haven't been there in a few weeks. Happy searching Mr. Oban.

If you haven't checked out UB lately, look again. The action got wonderful after they were featured on the WPT.

I think I might split my action future between Party Poker and UltimateBet. Anyone else have 2 accounts? Seems like you can get the best of a few different worlds (since both are plugged in to different pro tournaments).

Yes, there is the action you say at PokerRoom, but not enough. Very few tables.

To answer your second question ...

Switching from "limit" to live "no limit" is like switching from poker to Parcheesi. (OK, well not that drastic)

Position becomes everything. It is that much more important in no limit. You will have to lay down many "would be winners" due to your position. It is part of the game. It sends a lot of people on tilt.

... that is where I clean up. *ha,ha,ha*

It will be a serious test on your "tilt" control.

No limit is unique in that, one mistake can cost you your entire stack. You can play flawless for hours only to make one mistake and BAM!!!

I personally think live no limit is the best game on earth. I am hooked. You don't know how good it feels not to go down to 7-2 offsuit anymore :)
