| I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this same strange phenomena? I am a consistent winner in live 10-20 to 20-40 games. I just returned from Tunica where I had quite a week. My question is that when I play online I experience wide swings during most sessions. It seems that I get more preflop callers, and post flop chasers that what I am used to seeing in live games. I am a tight, but very aggressive player. It seems that either because of all of the new players online, or just the fact that they don't have to feel guilty to one's face online that this aggressive style tends to be counterproductive. Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated. | ||

| Hey, Well, you will have more swings with on-line poker because the game is played at a much faster pace, so many more hands will be getting dealt out, and you'll be playing against many players who have never even played poker before and have no experience in live poker games or anything else. They're complete newbies and whether they're playing in a low limit game or the high limit game, their experience is still lacking. That is why there will be so many more players taking the flop... they really aren't aware as to where they stand in the hand and they'll make a ton of incorrect calls and/or raises against you. You will have more bad beats because these types of players will be more inclined to call you all the way to the river when they're really not supposed to be in the pot to begin with. Sure you'll get many tourists and/or newbies in the live games, but not nearly as many as you'll get when you play on-line. Just play where you can make a good profit and if on-line poker is not your "'thing" and does not suit your style of play, than my advice would be to just play in the live games that you were able to beat. And maybe just play in the lower limits when you play on-line to just try and earn a few extra bucks. The swings will not be as huge and it will be a good way to just add a little bit more profit to your already existing earn at the live games. 4 POKER | ||

| While it's true that online poker is much faster than B & M, resulting in more hands per hour, I honestly believe there is another factor that explains the high pre-flop action, suck-outs, etc. It's called the "cyber chip phenomenon." My experience tells me that most people still do not understand the value of their online chips. It only requires a simple click of the mouse to chase that 2-outer, whereas in a card room you actually have to psychically dig into your stack and toss your chips into the pot. Many online players, whether at 1/2 or even 20/40, simply underestimate the value of their chips, therefore they are more willing to chase that gutshot or, when holding QQ, chase that 22:1 with a board showing an ace and a king. Like you, I've experienced similar in online play vs. B & M, but I do not attribute these wild swings solely to the speed of the game, even though it does factor into the equation. Several notable poker authors have written articles on this so-called "cyber chip phenomenon," I don't remember any off the top of my head, but I'm sure an archives search will yield results if you're interested. Hope this helps. | ||

| Absolutely. I have said many times that it's very easy to just sit there and press buttons. No arguements here! I too had to adjust and get used to the whole phenominon of on-line poker because when I first got a computer (which was not that long ago), the on-line poker games seemed to be like a video game to me. I really had to stop and think that "Hey...this is real money here, dude, slow down"! 4 POKER | ||
