What TV poker hath wrought ..., Paul Stine, 13. Jun 2003 09:26 | ||

| Well, if you can't push it all-in with the nuts, what can you push it in with? Now I can see the guy with the set of aces pushing it in, but what about the guy with the pair of deuces? He has a draw to: 1) a beaten set, 2) a straight that only ties, 3) the worst runner runner flush, 4) running quads. (Any full house he makes is beaten.) What's more, is that there has already been a bet and two raises when he decides to call with bottom pair. I wish I was in this same situation every time. | Hey man, I had my pocket kings busted by a guy who called a large preflop raise with J3o, he hit his J on the flop, he bet I reraised big, the turn came a 3 and so did the river. This was in a live NLHE cash game. Looks like everyone thinks their Gus Hansen | ||

| That's pretty funny. I'd have a lot to say about that if I hadn't seen that sort of thing happen dozens upon dozens of times. | ||

| I know, I've seen it so many times too it's a joke already. However it still stings when it happens. What I need to do is make sure i don't tilt when this happens. Which brings me to another point. Obviousle patient play will get you back into things in a limit game as I stated it did in an earlier post. However in NL how can one better manage this. Bets vary in size so you can lose quite a bit more on a big suck out when someone misplays their hand betting without proper pot odds and catches those lucky cards. In limit you just wait, sit tight and make those bets. I NL though you might noty get the same chance to get those big bets back. I'm new to NL cash games so where might be a good place to look for more strategy info? Thanks, John | ||

| When the bad player tries explaining he had you beaten all the way, when in fact, he had no idea how far behind he was. I'm dealt A3h in the SB in a tournament game at Paradise, complete, flop two pair on a board of A38, two spades. I bet, two callers Turn is a red J I bet, one caller Turn is 4c I bet, and the one caller raises. This is one of those "What on God's Green Earth could you be holding to raise me with such a rag on the river?" hands. I fully expected him to turn over 44, as bad players just can't get rid of any pair at any time. I call, and he turns over A4 for a higher two pair. As I exclaim my disgust for the river that beat me, he tells me he had me outkicked anyway. Never mind that if neither of us get aces up, and had just top pair, there's no scenario in the world that would have allowed for his 4 "kicker" to play and beat my 3. The pot would have been chopped. Short of hitting his three-outer, he was in a lose-or-chop scenario the whole way and didn't even know it. God bless new players. | ||

| This, my friends, is why I always raise with AA. Even if you get just one player to fold pre-flop, who is to say that one player isn't eventually holding the winner? Probably wouldn't have worked here, as 22 was going all the way with a clearly inferior hand, but it would have worked against a knowledgable player holding 25o in the BB. | ||
