UPF tourney on Planet - Ewww., stdioh, 12. Jun 2003 13:36
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
I just looked at the details for the tourney and am I correct in seeing that it is a (gulp) limit tourney? Who's idea was that? I thought we were pretty much unanimous here in wanting a no limit tournament. Is this locked in stone now or can we change it. Mike? Roy?

We let them choose where to put us, and they chose.

Squeaky wheel gets the greasin'.

p.s. With the 10pm EST start time, I wanted NL as well.

I mentioned the same thing earlier. I do well at NL. Now I won't be able to bluff until the blinds get big. I'm not sure I can play solid "ring" poker for the first couple rounds.

GRIN.

Don't worry - I'm there even if we're playing a tournament of old maid with one eyed jacks, suicide king, and deuces, treys, and aces wild :)

Limit? Great!

Check, check, check, bet, call, call, call, call.
Repeat for two more betting rounds.

Why don't we just have a BINGO tournament instead.

Is it too late to withdraw?

Agreed. I hear the 5-10 song already...the song that goes

Well, I had thought the whole idea was a tourney JUST for UPF members. As it turns out, we are being thrown into a regular, weekly tourney. And yes, I thought we had agreed that it was going to be a NL.

I for one am going to skip the tourney. If it was just for UPF members, I would play. I guess Planet feels that we aren't worth the effort to coordinate our own tourney. Bad marketing move. But what do I know.

i agree with slick--we wanted our own tournament --not being herded into another tournament as a side event--even though last nights UPF
show was a limit event , it was hardly check, check ,check, etc, but i would also prefer a no limit event but one with exclusivity.

Hmmm i can see what you are all saying but i for one am gratful that Mike Caro and Planet have taken the time and effort to get the ball rolling and give us our own tourny. With the additional benefit of all the extras that have been thrown in for UPF finishers i think we might be getting ahead of ourselves in demanding everything that we want and it does seem a little rude to be having a go at Planet after they have kindly helped us.

I know they are getting the benefit of us joining but i would wait and see how the tourny shapes up before getting too worked up about it being a bad thing.

Sorry for the serious note of the post but i do feel slighty ashamed that people can criticise the effort that has been put in for us, after all Rome wasnt built in a day and we dont pay anything for use of this forum.

I for one would like to take this as an opportunity to thank all those invloved in setting it up and would also like to ask Planet Poker if they are reading this to ensure i get AA every hand in next weeks competition.

Sorry for the downer post i promise the next one will be more aloof.

Well put, chase.

I tend to agree as well. These guys did not have to jump in and help us out, but they did.

Also, I personally like limit tourneys... they go well with my patient nature. So, you guys that will only play NL, go ahead and sign up anyway, I could use the extra chips! ;-)

Indeed, I'm not griping about our deal with planet. Obviously we're getting cream on our buy-ins so it is a great deal. Meh...I just think that limit tournaments are too crapshooty (especially starting with 150 chips and blinds up every 15 minutes) to be more than a bingo game. Bingo is fun. Bingo with extra prizes is good. Being offered extra prizes in a bingo match is nice. But it is still bingo.

Limit tourny's (to me at least) are the equivalent of death by 1000 needles. I am with you slick...I am skipping unless we can change it to NL.

Hey guys, kind of reminds me of this monastary where monks take a vowel of silence, but one monk each year is allowed to make one short statement during dinner. First year, this monk gets up and says "I dont like the mashed potatoes." Next year, another monk gets up and says, "I think the mashed potatoes are just right." Next year, another monk gets up and says, "I am getting tired of all this petty bickering."

So now, for a little of my own petty bickering. This tourney was set up simply for a chance for UPF posters to get together over a cold one, just as vampires do at a post mortem (sorry about that one).

My moral lecture is finished; and just to show you all my hypocritical side, I am not playing at all. I went back to Planet, looked it over and saw that nothing had changed over the last two years. I wont keep beating a dead horse (Planet) though, because it stinks. Beating it would just make it stink that much more.

In all fairness, planet does look pretty crusty. Lets still play this one though. Lets have fun with it - enjoy the friendly competition, and have the next one somewhere a little more convenient (ub, start, party, etc).

As for the griping, I'd say that if griping can get this changed to a NL tourney then griping is a-ok and if not then no point in griping.

Agreed. I think the griping has a chance of serving a purpose. I don't think it's being rude to state your desire for a NL tourney (especially sense that's what we all agreed on). But for a $20 buy in, I'll play any game for a chance to win a signed copy of "Caro's book of Tells"! And I'm mostly playing just to sit down and watch some great players play.

If this goes well, we can start having more frequent tourneys, and I have no doubt we'll end up getting the tourneys we want eventually.

As I posted before, I will check around and see what I can do. I think I can pull it off. I will make them an offer they can't refuse. (Settle down Corleone! *ha,ha,ha*)

This is what I will be looking for ...

1) No Limit (no limit, or no Tourney!)

2) $20 buy in

3) At "least" 500 in starting chips (I am open to ideas on this one.)

4) Restricted to UPF player ONLY!

5) Prize pool to pay down to 5th Place.

Please let me know how you all feel about the criteria listed above. If (once) I get a casino to commit, I will have to shoe up the fine details. I think we should go with majority rule.

**** Also, I think it is very important not to have to little starting chips, or it becomes to much of a luck factor. Do you agree?

THOUGHTS ........

I like it, except I would prefer either 1K or 2K in starting chips. I think 500 is too little.
