| Yesterday I sat down at what I can easily call the craziest 1/2 table I have ever seen. The average pot size was well over $30. Practically every hand was capped pre flop. The same 4 or 5 players were in every hand raising and reraising. Any two suited cards, connectors and gapped connectors, Ax and even any face card was enough to do it with this crew. I easily had 8 quality starting hand sucked out by garbage like 92s when they hit their flush on the river after chasing my betting down. My stack was whittled down to practically nothing as I watched hand after hand being won by absolute trash. At first I thought maybe I was on tilt the way my stack was abused. But as I reviewed the way I had been playing I realized that first I was playing well, just getiing beat by the math and secondly that I actually was not steaming. So, I sat there and took the bad beats but eventually things started coming around. The numbers started working back into my favor. After losing almost $80 in a 1/2 game (On Ultimate Bet I usually easily turn a descent profit at these games) I started coming back. Unfortuneatley I eventually ran out of time and had to sign off before I got all the way back to even. I logged the losing session but more importantly learned that I can go through a massive downswing against crazy players, suffer bad beat after bad beat but still remain focused enough to play solid poker. Being patient does work, and will beat these insane tables. I thank you guys for teaching me this. Bring on the fish. By the way, I made extensive notes on each of these maniacs, their tendencies and styles. I can't wait to find them again. On Ultimate bet this will be easy since i put them all on my Ultimate buddy list. :-) John | ||

| You can't win 'em all, John. Hang in there. Don't be upset that you had to leave before getting back to even. Tomorrow is another day and you could have just as easily given some of that money back if you had stayed longer. Just a reminder, that in crazy games like this with a lot of players seeing the flop, pairs go down in value and drawing hands like straights and flushes go up in value. See ya at the tables! | ||

| Thanks Big_Slick. I actually knew that but didn't have that in mind yesterday and will be sure to keep that in mind in the future | ||

| Pairs don't really go down in value, they go up; however, since you usually won't win with just one pair in the crazy games, they become more of a drawing proposition. You just can't expect them to win without improvement very often. I'm still very happy when I look down at a big pair in these games, I just remind myself that I don't want to get married to it when there is an unfavorable flop. | ||

| I should add that in these games, really strong draws go way up in value, which makes it seem like the big pairs have gone down. Really they have just gone up in value LESS than the drawing hands. Believe me, the size of the pot that you will win when you flop an A to your pair of AA's, or four flush cards to one of your A's, will make up for the times that you had to fold it on the flop when the flop didn't help you. | ||

| When you're in a game like this, don't expect to win with one pair. | ||

| In games like this with many people seeing the flop the game favors those with the best draw not those with the best hand at the time. Remember there will be many collective outs against you, especially if the board is scary. You should concentrate now on eliminating players instead of building a big pot. It sounds like a raise on the flop won't do the trick in this game, however if the better is on your right you can wait until he bets on the turn and confront everybody with two big bets. Be carefull with this strategy. You need to be pretty confident that you will eliminate enough players. If you feel these guys are going to call no matter what, then call and pray your hand holds up. Be prepared to muck those big pocket pair if you catch a lot of heat. Remember, any money put into the pot from the flop on benefits the best draw. If you choose to play in games like this expect wide fluctuations in your bankroll. | ||

| It is true that when you do play in very loose games the fluctuations will be greater however, I still would take my pocket AA's and my pocket KK's any day of the week, regardless of the texture of the game. Knowing when to release a hand is always an important factor but if you play solid cards while also being able to play more of the drawing hands, you'll profit in the long run anyway. 4 POKER | ||

| John you played that right. You are going to lose some hands against garbage starting hands. That is always tough to take. But eventually those players are going to make you a big winner. In this case you ran out of time before you came back and started to make money. In the long run those types of players will make you more money then they take from you. | ||
