| Re-reading my response to the post yesterday to "Best time to play online" where I state that you should play when YOU are at you best, I am going to sound like a hypocrite in this post. However, in an effort to beat myself up a bit and perhaps save a few BB's for the rest of you, I want to share my online experience last night. I was tired when I got home from work last night. Coming off of 4 hours sleep on Monday night, a 12 hour work day, I KNEW that I shouldn't log on to play. But, I had some free time so what did I do? Yup...I sat down at a 3-6 on Party Poker, a game that (WHEN I AM AT MY BEST) I normally can beat for at least 1 BB an hour in a normal session. Well, the combination of having a session where good cards didn't hold up, draws didn't hit, and me not being near my best equaled a big loss kids. And you know what? I didn't take bad beats...I got OUTPLAYED by opponents that were more sharp than I was. Nothing to do with luck...I sucked last night because I made the wrong decision to sit down in the first place. In other words, I made poorer decisions because I was tired, and I most likely threw away 10-15 hours income MORE than I should (or would) have in this losing session. Long story short...DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE. It doesn't matter if you are a solid player who generally beats the game. You beat the game when you have all cylinders in your poker engine firing. If you are tired, distracted, angry, or not completely focused on what you are doing, SAVE YOUR $$ for another day. It is not worth it to waste 30 hours of solid play in 1 predictably poor 2 hour session just because you "feel" like playing or have nothing better to do. Beating myself up is always a bit therapeutic. I hope that the message sent can save some $$ for anyone out there who is thinking of sitting down at the felt today when they know they shouldn't. | I can add to that. Pick your playing time appropriately. I have three girls ages 3, 2, 9 months. I was watching them last night while the wife was out. They wanted to watch a movie after their bath so I thought I could pull out the laptop and play a bit. Well, it was hard to concentrate and I found myself running back and forth to the computer. I ended up losing about 20BB in about an hour. Of course I'm not crying because that was only $10. But to shorn's point, I didn't get any bad beats either. Just played poorly. Luckily I got half of that back after they went to bed. Oh, and last night's bad beat... 5 players left in a Sit and Go. We all have around 1500 to 2500. I'm one of the smaller stacks. Limp in with QTo. Flop hits Q2T. Sweet. Player bets, I raise, he goes all-in, I call. He flips up KK. Now I gotta wait out the turn and river and hope a K doesn't show. As I hold my breath, I make it!! Yet the chips get pushed to my opponent! I was so concentrating on watching for a K that I missed the 2 on the turn that gave him a higher two pair. :( TKarrde "You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never to get involved in a land war in Asia. And only slightly less well known is this: never go in against a Sicilian (Mozman) when death is on the line!" | ||

| Great post. Thanks Shorn. We have all been there, myself included and I know that when I do something like that, it is totally against what I believe in, and I am only kicking myself in the ass later for ALLOWING them to take my money. I know exactly how you felt and it sucks because you know you are smarter and better than that. Realizing our mistakes and by trying to correct them from happening again will only make us stronger and better players. Thanks for sharing your experience...no bad beat stories or excuses, just plain and straightfoward honesty. 4 POKER | ||

| Thanks Dave. Still kicking myself a bit because I should know better. But, hopefully I have learned my lesson for the last time, or at least for a few years. | ||
