| It happens to everyone... every move you make seems to be the wrong one. Hands you fold would have been the winning hand if you stayed till the end. You decide to fold a hand pre-flop because of a raise... then you watch as the flop shows that you would have had trips or 2 pair. The hand you do decide to play ends up being a loser when some smuck catches the flush on the river with his 4-10 of Diamonds. Timing... some nights it's just off. I had one of those nights tonight. What do you tell yourself? How do you handle your emotions? Do you continue to play when you find that your timing is off? I only played an hour tonight but was very frustrated. I actually had won a small amount and thought it was better to call it a night and try again tomorrow. | ||

| There's a story about a high stakes profesional in Las Vegas who lost a huge all in pot at the Mirage, losing something like $30,000, to a one out bad beat on the river. The story goes that he went across the street to the Flamingo, checked into the best suite available, and called up half dozen of Las Vegas' finest working girls for 3 days and 3 nights of non stop partying. Maybe you should try something like that. LOL | ||

| If you play solid poker and play correctly pre-flop then you shouldn't even be concerned about a hand that you could have won if you only had played it. Sure there are going to be many times that if you only played that one hand you would have won a monster pot. But you can't look at it that way. This will cause you to play poor starting hands and most of the time these hands prove to be real "dogs". The only thing you can and should do is play correctly. If you're holding 10-9 suited on the button and there are several limpers in already, then the pot odds will be there for you to play that hand in that spot. But if you're UTG with that holding and the game is aggresive, then that hand would not be playable from that position. Please don't give yourself excuses for playing inferior holdings with poor position and/or incorrect pot odds either; just play a solid yet aggresive game of poker and the rest will fall into place. There will be situations that will justify a call given the proper pot odds and position, but, there is never a time to play poorly, 4 POKER | ||

| I find that when I'm having a night of bad "timing", I'm playing more hands than I should. Your post rings true, 4 POKER. I usually take a few days off and do a little reading if things aren't working. I almost always book a win after I come back, and feel very refreshed. Lee | ||

| Hey Lee, I know that when I have a real bad night at the tables, then the next time I play, I can almost guarantee you that I will have a winning session. I think the real reason for that is, you KNOW how you played the night before and all too often you were smacking yourself in the head for not playing your usual good game of poker. I'll go home, re-evaluate my play, tell myself what an idiot I was for not playing perfect poker, and then as soon as I put in my next session(whether it be the next day or the next week, depending on how I really feel about it), I KNOW I'm going to book a winning session because the focus and dedication will be even stronger than usual. 4 POKER | ||

| Sometimes I'll be getting no cards at all, but evey time I fold my junk I flop 2 pair, an oddball straight, etc. It is hard, but important, to ignore this. If I find myself getting punished too much for making the right move, I'll actively forget my cards when I fold them. | ||

| If you aspire to be a professional or just a winning player over time you must realize you are in a very loooooong series of poker games. One or two or three hands mean nothing in the greater scheme of things. Play your best and everything will work out because others WON'T play their best consistently Gary | ||

| Tell me about it. Last night the garbage continued. Sometimes the long run seems very far away. My wages for 2003 at poker are getting below the fast food industry and are approaching what I'd be making if I were cutting sugar cane in Havana. | ||
