| I've been playing alot of 5 card stud lately. At first i was making a huge profit, but the last few days i've been about even or stuck for a small loss. Either i had a good run of cards when i started to play or i'm having a bad run now, anyway.... What is the basic game theory for this game. I only call when one of my two starting cards are better than all others showing. If my highest is the same as someone else's card, i use my kicker to decide. (if everyones cards are 9 or lower, i will limp into the hand hoping to catch high no matter what my hole cards.) I always fold when I know i'm beat, i don't see the point in chasing cards. I also bluff once in a while. the game seems so simple to me, am i missing something? | ||

| There have been some good books written about 5-Card Stud. I have one of them. STUD POKER BLUE BOOK by George Henry Fisher. It's published by the Gambler's Book CLub, 1968, though it was written in 1934 or so. I'd consider selling it, but you're probably better off checking with the Gambler's General Store or the Gambler's Book Club in Vegas or on one of the on line used book sites. If you can't find a copy, feel free to contact me. Ashley Adams asha34@aol.com on 9. Jun 2003 18:56 Mark wrote: > I've been playing alot of 5 card stud lately. | Hey Ashley, Do you play poker on the east coast? I'm asking this because you are always more than happy to respond to the stud questions(which unfortunately, are not many), and it sounds to me that this is your game of choice. I'm from the east coast and have played nothing but stud for the first 5 or 6 years after the Taj Mahal had opened their poker room. I don't have much experience with 5 card stud however, they don't offer it in AC and when I played it a few times on Party Poker, I wasn't sure if I was playing it correctly. Do you think there's a lot of bluffing in this game?(I just found it that more than not, I was not making much of anything,(pairs) and wondered if this was more of a bluffing game opposed to anything else. Any thoughts? Thanks, 4 POKER | ||

| There is very little bluffing in the games i play. Mostly, people bet with high card, and some people chase, making big pots. mark | ||

| It's very interesting to me that this game is being played online. As I understand it, the game died out in the past because it gives such a terrible gamble to poor players. Those who chase are virtually giving their money away to tight players who only play premium starting cards. If there is any kind of loose action in these games it sounds like a license to steal. Is old fashioned 5 card draw (high) being played anywhere online? This is another game that gives a big advantage to a solid player. I used to play this in the last cardroom in California that dealt it years ago in San Diego but the room evidently went out of business by the time I returned here from Las Vegas. It's a great game when there are players that give action. | ||

| The last thing I remember was that Paradise Poker did spread a five card draw game. They had introduced three new games about eight months ago; five card draw, five card stud and pineapple. I haven't played on that site for quite some time now, so I'm not positive if they're still spreading those games, but I don't see why they wouldn't be. 4 POKER | ||
