I have a rules question:
What are the rules for splitting the pot in holdem, when there is a pair on the board? example: I hold 86 and player 2 holds 89, the board reads 8335Q? does player 2 take it because of the kicker? or do you use the Q?
Also, what about if I have 86 and player 2 has 87 and the board is 8324K, do our kickers come into play or does the K?

I think you use top 5 cards, regardless of whether they're buried or on the board. So, for your first example, your top 5 cards are 8-8-3-3-Q, and his top 5 are the same, so you'd split.

On your second example, your top 5 are 8-8-K-6-4, and his top 5 are 8-8-K-7-4, so he'd win.

It's from "The Matrix." When Neo goes to see The Oracle, there is a kid in her living room dressed like the Dalai Lama, bending a spoon with his mind. He tells Neo, "Do not try to bend the spoon, because that's impossible. Only realize the simple truth that there is no spoon."

Later in the movie, when Neo and Trinity are on top of the elevator and he's about to shoot the cable out to make the elevator fall, he mutters, "There is no spoon," just before pulling the trigger.

This might PO MozMan (sorry Moz), but don't waste your time 4P. It is a stupid movie. It tries to be in the genre of the greats like "Blade Runner" or Terminator (the original), but fails miserably...

Moz,
I think that you should provide us with a new quote at least once a week. It will give me something extra to look foward to when I read one of your posts!
Whatta ya think?

Yes, I already heard all of the not-so-good reviews.
.However, I was glad that Moz explained as to why(or should I say where) he came up with that quote.

i would say that it is worth watching just for the special effects. Alhtough great at the time of its release they are just about par with other super-effects movies today. But come on... since when do you need a plot to have a good movie? Hollywood has been doing without it for years.

4Poker - You should watch it. Just try and catch it on HBO for free!

shorn - Shame on you. Go back and watch The Horse Whisperer!! ;)

stdioh - Young male in his 20's never seen The Matrix?? Either something is wrong with those Ontario boys are you're spending too much time with Wren!! :)

Of course I have seen the Matrix. I'm a 25 year old software designer. I saw it in the theatre three times. I've watched it at home enough times that I could answer trivia about the slightest minutiae of it.

And, for the record, I loved the line, "There is no spoon."

If the best 5 card hand, including all kickers, is the same for both players then they split the pot. If it is different, then the higher one gets the whole thing. If the pot cannot be split without giving an extra chip to somebody it goes to the player with the worse position.
