I was wondering if any casinos would allow you to listen to headphones while at the poker table? Just asking thinking of Humberto Brenes and the WPO. Or is that just a special circumstance? It should could help pass the time.

I suppose every casino is probably different, but I know that my casino allows it. I have seen plenty of people playing with headphones on, and I even tried it once myself. I really didn't like it though; it was too distracting for me and I felt like it put some of the other players off.

The Great Canadian Casino in the Holliday Inn in Vancouver allows headphones - that is a turn off for me because you have to worry about the slim, but real, possibility that somebody is using them to cheat. I wouldn't want to use them either - there are too many auditory pieces of information in a poker game, like how hard somebody is clacking his chips or the old tell Amarillo Slim claimed to have on Treetop Strauss - that he would whistle through his teeth ever so quietly when he was bluffing.

That all said, the action in Vancouver is far too good to let the headphones, the coffee you have to pay for, or the terrible dealers get to me too much.

Vancouver?? I thought you were an Ontario boy?

Which reminds me... do you and Wren have to go to Brantford wearing your anti-SARS face masks?

I am an Ontario guy, but I grew up in Vancouver and still have a lot of family out that way...so when I'm back there I play at the Holliday Inn. I usually spend one or two weeks there every year and the game is too good to pass up.

And the SARS is being really overblown. Yes, a lot of people in Ontario have contracted it, but almost all of them have been nurses or other patients in the hospitals. I'd be more concerned with the gunge I'm getting off the chips than having somebody cough SARS onto me.

Yes, they do allow headphones(walkmans) in the Vegas cardrooms.
When I first heard of this I thought it would be really cool to be able to listen to music of my choice and volume however, I found it to be quite distracting and I was missing too much info(table talk) that was going on around me.
I guess it would be OK if you had to wait for a game so you had something to entertain you for a while but I would not recommend wearing them if you're trying to focus on the game.
