I am struggling with a problem. I play home games, and my strategy understanding is sound, but I play with a loose players. In a casino i could just tighten up and watch the play (antis in our games are min bet amount by the way), but if i do so there they will just go out if i bet. Believe me, i'm no rock either. So i usually have to loosen up and/or I go on tilt and lose to these lucky bastards. I would just like a little advice.

I'm no pro, but I would steal blinds (wait, did you say no blinds?) and bluff with crap until I got busted doing it. Then tighten back up.

Anyway, that's what I would do.

If you are playing Texas Hold'em with no blinds, but where everybody antis the minimum bet, then drawing hands will rule in your games. The more tenacious and passive the other players, the better that drawing hands become.

Still dump trashy hands (J6 suited, K7 off ect.), but be much more inclined to play all drawing hands and play them from much earlier positions than you would in a no anti game. Also, once you have callers ahead, do not be afraid to put in pre-flop raises with all pairs (looking for a set on the flop), and any hands that have a good chance to flop strong draws.

Do not let the fact that you raised pre-flop prevent you from dumping your hand when the flop misses you. Also, don't chase on the flop just because you don't want to be thought of as a rock. If you frequently put in pre-flop raises and then play very aggressivly whenever you have something worth chasing (or protecting) on the flop your friends will probably be happy when you fold.

I believe that top pair good kicker is still a good holding in games where virtually nobody folds before the flop and where players will chase with anything. However, it is certainly much more difficult to play this kind of holding than in a tighter game. You need to know something about how the others play and be able to dump it whenever it looks like you are beaten.

The best way to beat loose players is to play tight, but also strong. That is, don't fold off easilly if they are betting your pants off, but only be in there in the first place with very good cards. Thus you will drag very few pots, but the ones you get will be very big. You will take a lot of bad beats, but your overall average should be pretty good.

By knowledege / results /enthusiasm i should be the best player out of my friends, however whenever we get together and play ( often NL comps between 7-8 of us ) i get my butt kicked.

They are all waaaaay to loose and by the time i get to adjusting my game i am out of chips.

As much as i am Mr Competitive i just seem to take my foot off the gas and almost enjoy gambling it up with them ! Someone earlier posted about mentaly preparing themselves for poker, well try playing some friendly games and just play like a fish and gamble it is great fun ! ( Just remember to switch back when you are playing for real )

Indeed, I'll very rarely get together with some friends and some giant fish and play some 1-2 poker. I'll fish it up along with them sometimes, though I'll be able to play badly with them and still win since there is no rake and they are just *terrible* in general. So yeah, when the stakes are cheap and you just want to have some fun, playing bad bad poker can actually be a big stress releiver...like going to work and playing games, I would imagine.

I like to use play money and micro limits (.01/.02) online for this purpose. Just have some fun seeing how many impossible back-door inside straights I can draw in an hour or something like that... or maybe raise pre-flop UTG on 72o just to see if I get lucky. I've amassed a small fortune in play money from a couple of lucky draws in NL games; and I blow a dollar or so every so often just having fun in the micros. This is also the only time I allow myself booze while I'm playing.

Play money is good for stress relief and for pratice. When I wanted to learn Pineapple I went to the play money tables first. Dropped down to like 40 play chips. :( Then I wanted to learn to play Omaha 8 and got in a pot limit game. Now I have 80,000. :) Which is a shame as I have lost about $60 at Omaha 8 on the real tables (which is HUGE for me and my $200 bankroll.)
