| OK... here's your chance to fess up. What's the longest you've ever sat a poker table for once session? My record is child-like at 6 hours. I know some of you must have hit double figures at some point in your playing careers. Let's hear it! | ||

| 58 hours, Belle of Baton Rouge. Managed to only partially doze at table a few times, as soon as I left the boat I was done. Made it to my car and slept in the lot for 14 hours. | ||

| Those are some HUGE hours by everyone. And all I can think about it how much money was made during that time. Most likely, like tron, everyone was winning to stay that long. And at even 1BB per hour that is some huge money! TK | ||

| 18 hours. I drove up to Casino Rama (Orillia, Ontario - close to a 3 hour drive) with some friends in a rental car early in the afternoon, and they wanted to leave by just after dinnertime (~4 hours). I didn't think 4 hours was worth renting the car, and the long drive, so I tried to convince them to stay for a few more hours. Nope, they were leaving. So I opted to stay on myself and bus back to Kitchener at a later point. Ended up staying for 14 more hours. Had a pretty good session - up something like 40 big bets. After struggling all night and being down, I had a huge rush in the morning. I was definitely microsleeping between hands though. stdio and I just spent 14 hours at Brantford this weekend - my 2nd longest session. We got there at 10:00 Saturday night and played til after noon yesterday. I made a stellar $26 profit. *\o/*\o/* I'm still all messed up today. "Where did the weekend go?" I keep wondering :O) | ||

| Heh...I lost close to $1K in that long session...which means that in the last week I've made about the same salary at poker as I would if I were cutting sugar cane in Havana :) | ||

Although that's mostly when I was a lot younger (I'm just turned 59 two weeks ago), I'm semi-proud of an endurance feat that happened about five years ago. I played four straight days at the Bicycle Casino (near Los Angeles) and managed to hold 'em fairly well -- making quality decision after quality decision (or so I perceived at the time). I also perceived the competition to be very weak (except for a few blurry periods when I wasn't quite certain who my opponents were). I was stuck badly the first day and managed to regain most of my losses, before stumbling from the casino after a small loss. I remember a very real feeling of tunnel vision on the final two days, where only the cards themselves and the betting sequence had much meaning to me. All the rest of the world around me seemed surreal and almost incomprehensible. I was hallucinating, even though I didn't (and don't) use drugs -- and I didn't even drink coffee to stay awake. When I had similar long sessions 25 to 30 years ago, I didn't hallucinate nearly as much. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro | ||

| I've stayed awake for 80 hours on two prior occasions (but never at the card tables) ... both times I started hallucinating. The second time I saw spiders that weren't there. Needless to say I never felt the need to do this again. | ||

| Aside from Poker as a hobby I am an untra endurence athlete. I Participate in Ironman Triathlons as well as multi day adventure racing. Halluciantions caused by sleep deprivation are quite common in as early as 36 to 48 hours. Not much can be done to avoid this but nutrition is a key. If you're in one of these marathon session nutrition and hydration are key. Be sure you're consuming at least 16 oz of water per hour and eating a diet high in complex carbohydrates. These things will help your endurence greatly | ||

| Mike Caro, Holy crap! I can't believe that a person would be capable of staying awake for four straight days with no sleep whatsoever! Come on, you must have taken a nap somewhere, no? (Maybe in your car for an hour or so). How did you conduct yourself at the table? I know that when I used to play marathons my disposition at the table was awful- winning or not; it's your body's way of saying, "hey, enough is enough". I thought my sessions were marathons years ago...they don't even compare to yours. I do believe that you were being honest when you said that you were able to still achieve winning poker, but how does one do that? I couldn't think of anything that could allow my brain to function properly without collapsing first...Amazing, at any age if you ask me. The one time that I did put in a terribly long and gruling session...I was playing in a $5-10 stud game about ten years ago, maybe more, won over $1,400 in my 30 something hours of play- got in my car and drove home like a total zombie(the ride at that time was an hour and a half for me).I fell asleep for about five seconds and the next thing I remembered was being smack up against the car in front of me at a toll booth on the New Jersey Garden State Parkway...UGH. Luckily and fortunately for me, the guy in front of me was not hurt at all. That so-called great win that I had meant absolutely nothing compared to what could have happened to an innocent driver. (not to mention my car was completely totaled, not a dent on his car, though- it was truly amazing on all counts as to how lucky I had gotten) Now there's a wake-up call for you all. Since then I never played another marathon session again unless I had made previous reservations to sleep at the casino before traveling home the next day. 4 POKER | ||

| I think my longest session was around the 30 hour mark...UGH. That was way before I went pro and was limited to only playing on the weekends. I would park my butt in the chair and never(and I mean NEVER) get up until I was forced to leave due to "No mo' money" or the game had broken up. What a rollercoaster ride I was on back then and the funny thing was, that is when I REALLY seemed to love poker(what a joke). If you ask me that question today, I would tell you that my average session is only about 5-6 hours, I don't LOVE poker the way I used to but...that is because I have a true understanding and I am aware that in order to make money from this game you must be willing and able to quit when things are not going for you and treat this game as if it was like any other job, and that means getting the proper rest every day and not to only have respect for money, but to have respect and dignity for yourself as well. 4 POKER | ||
