| Let's forget tournaments for a minute. Who are best live game players in the world today. The no name guys that just get the money day in and day out. Who are they and what separates them from the rest. My guess is that the really great live game players don't even play tournaments and can't wait for one of these so call great tournaments players to sit down and play in there game after they win a tournament. So who are they? Thanks, Benzman | ||

| Some of the most successful poker players in the world never even play in tournaments. I'm sure that everyone who plays regularly in the cardrooms knows of at least one winning poker player and one who crushes the games all the time and has the profits to show for it. I can name one person who I will bet that noone on this forum has even heard of before(with maybe the exception of Roy Cooke) and this man makes more money than anyone I have ever known. He used to play in Vegas and that is why I think that Roy may have heard of him, his name is David Rosenau and he plays in Atlantic City now. He is always found playing in the highest limits but one thing that I find truly amazing is that he actually scopes out all the games before sitting down, even the ones that are way below his usual limit. He will sit in a $75-150 game if he thinks that's the best game but mind you, he usually plays anywhere from $200-400 all the way up to $4000-8000! He has made ALL of his money from "ring game" poker and none of it has come from tournaments or gambling games whatsoever,(not since I have known of him at least, and that has been for eleven years now). He has been very fortunate to have had very wealthy people who prefer to only play in a heads up game (whether that's just their ego or what, who knows, but many men who are rich and are not pro poker players like to play heads up to try and prove that they can beat a pro). But when these people come to town and it is quite often especially on the weekends in the summertime, they are willing to lose a ton of money. Well, David Rosenau is probably one of the only players that can afford to play in such high stakes games. He is also the only player that plays in these real, high limits that has never gone broke. You would be surprised if you knew just how many of these well-known poker players have done exactly that... There are a ton of the well-known tournament hero's that have gone busto because they unfortunately have other vices that they can't control. I won't even mention who they are because there are just too many players(especially the newer ones) who really look up to these guys, so their anonymity will be respected if nothing else. In order to truly be a success, you can't have other vices that can cause you to self-destruct! And what may separate him from the rest is that he has a strong desire to win and be successful and he was willing to go about it in the most healthiest of ways(no drugs, no outside gambling, a strong and focused mind and seems to still have discipline in every aspect of the game). That may sound like easy things to accomplish and or possess but truly, they are not. So for that reason alone I have a ton of respect for this guy; and when the rich suckers come to town he is there waiting for them. And when the tournaments come to town, he will be there as well...waiting. As far as just playing with the regular guys who can afford these limits; well David is also a top notch player so he's able to beat the pro's as well. 4 POKER | ||

| Thanks for all the info! I too agree with Benzman -- I want more info about the solid, steady, successful live game players. I get a sense that Ralph Slottbottom is one. See the recent Cardplayer Magazine issue where he discusses why people don't see him at tournaments -- says he plays the same few places, many of the same people, all the time so he really gets to know them. That's what I'm trying to do. I also am exercising before I play, meditating daily, eating less sugar and junkfood, getting more sleep -- doing everything I can to be a lean, mean poker machine! I have a rule that if I can't control my impulsivity during the day around food, etc. then I can't play poker that night -- I know from experience I'll play too loose. Who wins a poker tournament is too much chance and not enough skill, from what I've observed. Live games over a long time is how you prove yourself and make a living besides. (I'm not trying to be a millionaire -- I'm trying to avoid a job at Starbucks!) | ||

| Wow...I am impressed by the regimen to which you are holding yourself. I like the part about punishing yourself by not playing if you cheat with the food. I need to lose about 20 pounds to get back to fighting weight...maybe I will try that! | ||
