OK guys-

I'm gonna enter my first 'real,' live NLHE tourney on Saturday morning (till now, I've only played cheapies and point tourneys online, and I did one Limit HE at the casino about a month ago)...

Anyway, I think I'm ready to give it a shot, but before I get there, any general words of advice would be appreciated. It's a $150 buy-in ($125 + 25) and usually starts with between 75 and 100 players. If it gets to 100 or more, they'll payout the top 20, otherwise they will pay out the top 10 (usually about a $12k prize pool, the casino adds $2k per money table).

In any case, as I fully expect to money in this tournament, it is my first, so I think I will be proud of any finish in the top 30 or so...

Wish me luck!

Moz,

Do you know what the ante structure is for the tourney, how many chips you start with, etc?

Yeah, start with 1k chips, 5/10 blinds. Blinds double every 30 minutes. Tourney normally lasts about 6 hours.

Hey Moz,

Good luck!

I'm playing in my first live tourny this weekend too. Its smaller, $150 buy in, 50 goes to high end food and bar, waitresses and dealers. $100 goes into the pool. 80 players. The structure is a bit unusual. Limit for the first 1 1/2 hours then moving to no limit for 2 hours. At the end of that 2 hour period chip leaders from each table move to a final table and re chip to 2K chips each. These table leaders also are payed out $300 each so they are already in the money.

The remaining payout are pair %75 to first and %25 to second.

not a typical structure I'm sure but it sounds like fun. If I bust out early (which I don't plan on) At least I'll be able to hang out and have a few drinks.

wish me luck.

Good luck to you too!

That is an odd structure... but if I ever got into something like that I might actually like it because you can really just concentrate on beating your table, then worry about hte final table after that, instead of having a table that's constantly changing as people bust out.

It also sounds like a fun challenge in that you have to switch from a limit game to a no-limit game... so I image you really need some skill to get through it.

Hey Moz,

Hope you did better than I did.
Finished 3rd at my table. Played two bad hands. First was J10 s that I was in BB. Checked in 3 callers. Flop came JQJ. I bet SB Foldede preflop. I bet out 400 (started with 2K, this was the fourth hand). couple folded, late position raises all in. I think, I figure I'm out kicked I fold. He shows face up 66. CRAP!!!!! A few hands later I ahve pocket 10 10 raise big, guy to my left calls. A on the flop and I don't have the balls to fold. call him down to the river ...man am i dumb, hes been very aggersive all night and I should have folded. He, opf course has the A.

I busy out in third at my table out of the $$$. How ever I make it up in side games.

Feel like i let you guys down. Cards were'nt coming but I played poorley in some hands as well.

Ended up a money winner for the night but played badley when it counted.

When you are the one making the all-in bet or raise, you never get outplayed. Brunson is still right, put the other player to a decision for all his chips.
