| I play the freeplay satellites on pokerpages.com and regularly finish in the top 2 (I win about 60% of the time when it gets heads up). I'd like to play for money, but I question whether I'm good enough to win. Is the only way to tell - play for money? Is there a better gage of whether or not I'll win playing for money? Who has the most loose satellite tables? Thanks! trwebb26 | ||

| I was in the same boat you are. I was winning on that site reguarly also. I have chosen to invest $60 and play at bugsy. I am down $3 after playing in 4 tournaments. I played in 3 5+1 satallites and one $15 satallite. I took 2nd place in 2 tournaments and busted out just before the money in another. I am currently trying to forget about the 4th one. Now, on to my point. Bugsy has a good match program for your money right now but you face a lot of the same players. On to my point, if you win at the free play tournaments than you should fair well at a money one. Granted free play tends to be a loose game. The biggest problem I ran into is staying out of the ring games. I have found (by losing money) that I am a better tournament player than ring. Put a little money in and test yourself. The nice part about playing online is that you can test your skill in tournaments and risk only $5. Good luck. | ||

| If you want to play free money for real compitition, I would play on a site that gives you compeditive bragging rights like Poker School. There are freerolls for money on some sites if you just sign up for the site. In my own experience, few players jump in with a 2 3 o if there was real money involved. Good luck! | ||

| I think that if you can "money" (place in the top 3) at least 50-55% of the time in those pages tournaments, you will likely be a winning player at small buy-in real money tournaments. I used to play a lot of those Pokerpages single table tourneys. I won about 30% of them and "moneyed" in about 60%. I haven't done *as well* in real money sit n gos or the UB point tournaments, but I'm still moneying in 45-50% of them. Now, I play the UB point tournaments exclusively, but stdio plays a lot of the small buy-in money sit n gos ($5 +.5, $10 + 1) and apparently they're fishy as hell, much more so than the point tournaments. You get stuff like players going all-in on the second hand preflop with KTo, calling pot-sized bets with small flush draws on the turn, etc. etc. I'd recommend giving it a go. I'm not sure how the real $ sit n gos are on other sites, but they're definitely beatable on UB. | ||

I think the reason for it is that UB now has a TREMENDOUS number of players, compared to most other online poker rooms... there are a lot of people who just don't nkow how to play. Just don't get too frustrated when they get lucky. =P -Moz "Life is a dream. Live your dream, because we all wake up eventually." | ||

| BTW, sorry about slowplaying those aces against you and knocking you out last night. If it is any consolation, I think you played that tourney extremely well. | ||

| Oh, an a correction from the other thread. I didn't have Ax and catch an ace. I have AA. You needed to catch a third queen or hit your ten kicker. | ||

| Actually, I think I must have seen the cards wrong (I was pretty tired) I think I was under the impression it was A4 or something, which would be logical if I was tired, as a '4' can be mistaken for an 'A'... that's why I had the impression it was a mercy call... :) Thanx again for the compliments (in the other thread)... I like to think I am improving, but positive feedback from a good player that I respect really adds weight and makes me feel better about my game. -Moz "Life is a dream. | Hehehe...A4: the Other AA :O) I've made that mistake too. And, of course, the "I have a nut flush draw! No wait - is that a club? Damn!" | ||

| LOL! Not to mention how many times I've embarassed myself at the casino my turning over my cards while declaring "I have a straight!" only to have the dealer come back with "No you don't." That's usually a pretty clear sign that I've been playing too long... -Moz "Life is a dream. Live your dream, because we all wake up eventually." | ||

| I don't know what is worse... proclaiming you have a straight when you don't or folding a straight by accident. Of course, you never know about the straights you fold by accident. | ||

| I was in a casino playing without my glasses (damaged at the time), and mistook my JJ for QQ. Got really excited when the flop hit QQx, and didn't bother to take a second glance at my cards. Needless to say, I bet the farm on this, and then stopped for a second just kinda staring when my opponent flipped up AQ. Until I flipped up my jacks, I was just thinking how terrible this misdeal was. | ||

| Nope...there's no way I would have been in there with A4o in the first place and I certainly wouldn't be calling 400 with one overcard and no kicker. | ||

| I have one worse than that. Declaring that you have a certain hand and then having your friend tell you, "Uh, Steve...you play the board." | ||

| The lower limit Sit n go's at UB usually take in the hour range. They are rather fishy but a few solid players work them as well. I have an "in the money" percentage of about 60% over the past two weeks which is when I started playing them instead of ring games. | ||

| You can't get fat playing $5 sit-n-go's but if you play them for entertainment value, then you can do quite nicely at them. Going to the cardroom is work, but playing a sit-n-go online before bed is kinda fun. | ||
