| Alright so word has it that Chris moneymaker had never played in a live tournament in his life and had only played tournys online. Which leads me to a question about how he coudl have possibly won if that was true. If he had never played in a real life tourny woudln't he have all kinds of tells that professionals would pick up on? Most online only players don't bother to work on their tells since obviously they have little importance when your just another blinking dot. Did moneymaker just get incredible cards or is it possible he just had zero tells? | ||

| Not that I believe either way, but having all the tells is just as confusing as having no tells. It unnerves those in the know. If it's true, I'm sure he's watched tournaments, read the books, and played in home games (real people!!), just not sanctioned events where people kept track of who was whom. on 25. | The same thing happened last year when Robert Varkoni won the "Big Event at the WSOP. Chris Moneymaker has had experience in playing on-line poker so he wasn't totally clueless to poker. Yes it is amazing that he was able to beat 840 people and that is why tournaments are based on so much short term luck/results. Anybody can win a tournament but in order to do that, you must get the right cards at the right time. That is the key. No matter how experienced someone may be, if the cards that one player receives are not at the time when someone else also has a good hand to stay in with and that person beats him in that hand, he will not advance. A player may have pocket AA's and another player may hold KK. Well if the flop comes Ace, King X, how much money do you think will be in that pot(regardless of who's holding which hand). It is situations like these that are present over and over in one persons day when they play in the Big One and they are constantly being put in these unbelievable spots where they are holding on to Monster holdings and somebody else is ALSO holding on to a monster but it simply just doesn't connect for them. Everything MUST be in your favor and at all times when you play in a tournament because it is based on only short term results. I'm sure that Moneymaker was involved with other opponents when the deck just hit him over the head; and than he was also able to cash in on his really big hands as well. It was simply just his day to shine and who knows, maybe he does possess a talent in poker and/or tournaments. Just because he is fairly new to the scene doesn't necessarily mean that he isn't a natural. Maybe I'm being a little kind here, but you never know. I really don't think that even if he had a whole bunch of tells that that would have played such an important role in this event. You see, if someone is simply just playing their own hand and really is not aware of its true weakness(like Robert varkoni did last year with his Q-10 over and over), if that player is able and willing to commit his chips to inferior holdings and gets fortunate enough to draw out while he was a huge underdog to start, than that is all that will matter here.(short term results) Now, if a player was to continue to play trash cards in unfavorable situations in a "ring game", if he played long enough(a time period that can best show the true results of bad/weak poker playing) he would definitely be a long term results loser. That is why tournaments are such a huge attraction, anyone can win one...absolutely anyone! 4 POKER | ||
