| If your in late position. Lets say 8th thro 10th spot, and are checked to during the flop. What do you do? bet are just check, and why? Do you bet if your holding mid pair, low pair, high pair, looking to make your flush etc. etc.? Would you make a bet even if you had just 2 overcards, or even when your holding squat regardless to establish control, and/or to get information? | ||

| that is a question that is completely situational, and impossible to answer. It entirely depends on the competition, how many people you are against, the action before the flop, the make up of the board, and your hand in relation to it.. If I sensed weakness in people, I would bet second pair, or a pocket pair under the highestI.. card for sure. if I had a good draw ( ie big flush or nut open ender), I would consider betting, hoping to get a free card on the turn if nothing develops. But I would be much less likely to bet those draws if there was an aggressive person in early position who would recognize my potential steal, check raise, and knock everyone else out. Also, if your table had alot of sandbaggers, who check raise alot, I would proably be more likely to take a free card. if I had a pair of aces, with a weak kicker, and there are few people in the pot, I might check, hoping someone with second pair would bet the turn, thinking they have a good hand the possiblities are endless. If I was against weak, honest players who check when they were weak, and fold when they have nothing, I would bet with almost anything. Betting the flop, like anything else in poker, has no hard fast rules, and your question is too open ended to answer properly. | ||

| I understand it was a difficult question to answer becuase it dependant on more variables. I was just curious if I was tossing too much money away with my liberal bets during late position if im checked too. I am generally playing with a tighter crowd that seem to thing that the nutz are the only way to win a hand. | ||

| Let me ask you this... Let's say that you are to the right of the button and everyone has checked thus far. If you check and the button bets, what would you do? If you end up betting anyways, you've made the wrong play. Why? Because you have put yourself in a weak position. If you we're going to bet regardless, then you need to make a bet and establish yourself as the leader. Now, if you were on the button, a check isn't necessarily bad but this is a great position to place a bet... even if you have nothing. This could be enough to send everyone packing, especially in a tight game. The worst that can happen is you get called. You can always fold on the next round if you haven't improved. If you get re-raised, you should probably fold. Now, if you decide that you have total crap and don't want anything to do with this hand, go ahead and check. If someone bets, you can just fold. If they check too, you've gained a freebie. Just some random thoughts... I hope this helped. | ||

| It also depends on what limit you are playing and what you hope to accomplish with your raise. If you're playing low limit holdem, (anything below 15/30 or 20/40), then are you hoping to make people fold with your raise? Good luck...there's a reason why low limit is nick named 'No Foldem Holdem'. So your raise won't get people out. If you were raising to build the pot, well...don't all those fish who call everything to the river build it up anyway? And why throw away another bet and give away your hand when the flop could totaly miss you anyway? | ||
