| I was watching the final table of my Wednesday night tourney, which unfortunately didn't include me this time. The key hand came up between the last two players. I don't remember what the board was exactly, but it looked pretty raggy and included an 8 and a 3. On the turn the board paired the 8 and I saw the slightest hint of a smile on one of the players lips, so slight that it was barely noticeable. "He's got an 8, he's gonna take down this pot and win!" I thought. I was surprised to see how many raises the other player was willing to call, and wondered if he had missed the tell. Anyway, 1st place was about twice second, so there was a bit over $1500 riding on the hand. It turned out the other player had pocket 33's and picked up a full house when the eight fell. I think that involuntary tells like this happen even to good players when under considerable stress. For instance, if it had been $15 riding on the hand instead of $1500, I don't think this player would have given anything away. Anyway, I don't really have a point except that you can even pick up tells on people who make it to the end of tournaments. In this case, the other player had the goods and didn't need to pick up the tell; however, if he didn't have the goods and was watching his opponent closely, that ONE tell could have been worth $1500.00, if he had folded something that he might have been tempted to play, like an overpair, for instance. | ||

| Good eyes, and kudos to you for paying attention even after getting knocked out. I probably would have relaxed too much after finishing and missed this. | ||

| Well, I see a lot of the same players every week at this tournament, so I like to see how they play, and if I can pick up their tells, even better! If that guy plays at my table, I'll have an edge. | ||
