| Paradise $20 NL comp 10 players prize split 50%/30%/20% 4 players left leader on T4000 me T2600 next T2200 and one on T1200. Blinds just gone up Leader is just folding away to finish in money and it has been a passive game with not many all ins and not a lot of action pre flop / post flop ( ie not loads of pot sized bets etc ) i have played before with the other guy on T2200 and T1200 and know them to be good players. Blinds are 200/400 i am UTG, T1200 is on BB ( with 800 left after blind) i get 77,i raise to 1200 button and SB fold BB calls all in. He shows me QK spikes a Q and i am down to T1400. Next hand i get 77 in BB ,in all folds to SB who raises all in i call he shows me AT spikes a Ten and i am out of there. Questions 1) should i have just been content to squeeze into money and not be so aggressive ? 2) Was the 77 good enough to do what i did? 3) what would have other people done with the 77 the first time i had it ( i think the second time was fairly automatic or was it ? ) Many Thanks Chase | ||

| I am no expert at NL by any means, but I would have played your hands the same way. Bottom line you were a slight favorite in both hands pre-flop so you got your $4 in with the best of it. He just happened to spike cards at the right time. I think at this juncture of the tournment, you need to become more aggressive and you had a chance to knock this guy out and get into the $$. That chance needs to be taken. | ||

| Rather than putting the BB all in, raise a smaller amount (to T800, maybe?) and see what the flop gets you, in action as well as cards? Did he spike the Q on the flop? ---- The SB in the second hand- what chips did they shove all-in? If your goal was to make the money, you might fold here. more likely, unless they have to have a big pair to attack, you call.. (The gods were telling you to wait for Presto, not the Presto wannabe which only THINKS it is superior....) | ||

| Since there's no guarantee you will finish in the money if you sit on your hands, it's hard to fault you for playing those pocket pairs. I'd have been similarly knocked out. You happened to be up against two hands where you were only a slight preflop favorite, but could just as easily have been played by an ace rag (lower than your sevens). You were also a favorite to have picked up the blinds in the first hand, but you just got outdrawn. These things happen, next time you could win both and probably finish 1st. or 2nd. You did the right thing being aggressive with the chip leader content to wait and see, it just didn't work. | ||

| I like to be the aggressor in NL, especially when a large chunk (or all) of my stack is at stake. Being so close to the money and currently in 2nd place, 77 is a marginal hand. Your plays really depend on your opponent's play and tells (not available online). If you think pushing all-in with 77 UTG was the right thing to do, i may well have been, it really depends. However, you have to realize that there is a good chance of being called when players are looking at getting blinded out. I definately don' t like your calling all-in with 77. Calling is a much weaker play and you don't have much. Your risking everything, but more importantly finishing in the money on a 77 against an all-in raise. I know its late and you can't afford to wait much longer, but i think it is a bad play. being just on the bubble, you should be thinking SURVIVAL. Once you in the money, then start taking those shots. mark > Paradise $20 NL comp 10 players prize split 50%/30%/20% > > 4 players left leader on T4000 me T2600 next T2200 and one on T1200.
