| Hi all: I have only been playing poker for a short while now. I decided to play in my first multi table tourney today. It was also my first time at N/L. I have always played limit $1/2 I finished 19th out of 254 entrants. I am very pleased with that result. Especially with how I lost. I flopped the nuts flush. I had the AK and the Q, 9, and 4 were on the board. I went all in. Now I raised preflop pretty heavy and was called by three players. When I went all in, I was called by the player whose chip total was very high, thus affording him the luxury of calling me, and still being comfortable in chips. He had QQ. The next 2 cards: 9,4 I'm done, but I felt like I made the right play. With my new found confidence I went to the $1/$2 table and had my best session ever. I'm still down overall. (only been playing 10 days), but I feel my play is turning around and 4 out of my last 5 sessions have been profitable. When checking my stats I found that I was only playing about 25% of my hands, and winning about 35% of them. My showdown % was 70% This is much better than it was my previous 9 days. Just thought I would share this postive experience to my fellow newbies who might be going through a bad streak. | ||

| Yeah... that all-in was a no-brainer. This player got extremely lucky. It takes the sting out of losing (a little) when you know you had much the better hand but some bozo got stupid-lucky on the draw. | ||

| Hey! Congratulations! That's a great finish for a first tourney and a short time player. Keep it up, and good luck in all your future tourneys. -Moz | ||

| Don't worry about those draws -- Last night I was playing in a "home game tourney", ended up calling an all in (he had about 1/2 the stack I had) pre-flop with KK. He turned 55 and started to get up, but the flop came out 346 with a 2 on the turn. Sometimes there just isn't anything you can do. Actually, there is something you can do -- Don't let it get to you. Not only did that hand put me on the short stack, but it also put me on tilt in the worst way, and I never recovered. | ||

| Agreed. All you can ask for is to get your money in when you have the best of it (which you did). The result of the hand itself is meaningless as short term luck (tailed probability distribution) will determine the winner of any given hand. In fact, in terms of expecation, you MADE MONEY on this hand even though you busted. You should be quite happy with your finish in your first tournament. I have been playing a lot longer than you and have yet to finish in the top 20 in a tournament that big. | ||

| One of my biggest pet peaves is going all in on the flop with the nut flush and having somebody tighten up on me. Just remember that if somebody has a set, they have a 1/3 chance of getting there, so it happens a lot. | ||
