Should I be worried?, TKarrde, 19. May 2003 07:00

Been having a great time playing online at UB but had something happen last night that concerned me.

I was playing at a table and went and checked my balance. Showed $322 in the account and $20 current in play for a total of $342. I left that table with about $21. I then got on two other tables and won a little over $5. As I get ready to leave for the night I check my balance again. Shows $328. What the heck? It should have been more like $348. I emailed customer service. They responded by asking what table I was on. I don't remember. I was on several tables that night. Tried my best to explain what tables I was on and when. Have yet to get a second response.

It almost seemed like that I left a table and they didn't put the money I had at the table back into my account. Can't be sure. I've asked for the details of my activity for the night.

I've got to feel worried here. I'm 99% sure that my current account balance is not correct. So the dilema is this. Either a) their software has some kind of glitch or b) they are crooked. I don't think it is B. But either way I think I should be worried about keeping my money there.

What size game were you playing? Is it possible that you gave up some money with a forced bet? Or maybe even lost a hand that you thought you had won? Just speculating.

I've been trying to think of what could have happened too. But I was only playing 25¢ games. Would have been hard to drop $20 that quickly. I keep trying to think if I missed something. But it wasn't a very far distance from point A (viewing the account with $321+$20) to point B (viewing the the account with $328). I just didn't do much in between. unfortunately I will probably never know exactly what happened and if it was UB or me that got it messed up.

Maybe you were a little quicker than their software. Check back to see if it has caught up to you and balanced your account.

If not, don't ever back down. It's pretty easy to explain that you were only playing 25c games, but $20 was missing.

Please report back when resolved.....one way or the other.

Not knowing any more than what you've told me, I'd have to say that you made a mistake. We can dismiss the thought that they are out to cheat you. That would be an absolutely stupid (and obvious) way to try to cheat someone.

Being a web designer with a little knowledge about how programming works, I know that these types of mistakes are rare. This is not new technology. I would have to think that UB has their shit together on this one.

That being said, I'm betting that sooner or later, you're gonna realize what happened and you'll figure out your mistake. I do it all the time. Keep us updated.

Logic makes me think that way. But common sense is saying something else. I know I had two apples. I added another apple. Now I have two apples. Besides I've worked with computer systems a lot in my time and have seen way too many unexplainable glitches. But I'm not here to point fingers at anyone. And know too well that I may just have remembered things incorrectly. But if there is a problem on their part I completely believe it would be unintentional. What will worry me is if they have no way of tracking my activity and I cannot know one way or another.

Thanks for the responses. I'll let you know what I find out.

I play at UB and I can tell you exactly what happened.

When you buy into a table at UB, the account balance shows your "money in play" as the total amount that you have bought into that table with while you have been sitting, not the actual amount that you have at the moment.

Thus, if I have $100 in my account and buy in for $10, account will say $90 in account and $10 at tables. Now if I rebuy for $10, account will say $80 in account and $20 at tables, even when I have lost $9 at the table and have $11 remaining in my posession. Then when I leave the table it will only say $91 in account. It isn't that money is dissapearing, but that the account services page doesn't update your money at the table as you play, only when you cash out does it add the total you cash out to your account total and when you cash in it adds the total at the tables by whatever you cash in. Thus, while you are playing there is invariably a discrepency.

But they aren't stealing from you.

I know what you are saying. And I figured that in. I never rebuy. Never have to. ;) But I left that table about even so it should have been close.

But they did send me ALL of my buy-in check-out info for the night for every table I was on. I couldn't follow it complete but what I did look at seemed correct. I need to follow it through beginning to end. But the fact that they sent that to me made me feel better.

And to clarify... I never accussed them of stealing. Just making a possible mistake.

Yeah...even if you don't rebuy, while you're still at the table the amount that they list for you having "at the tables" is the amount that you bought in for. So I don't know what went on...maybe they did make a mistake, but I think it is more likely that when you trace through the info they sent you you will find out what exactly happened with the missing money. I hope that it all works out well in any event.

Have you checked the balance again today? Many places (I haven't played UB) don't credit back your account with money from a table until after at least the current hand at that table is over.

What I mean to say, is pretend you had $30 at table A. If you fold your two cards and leave the table, your money will still be live at that table until after the hand that you folded on is complete. This could be a minute or two after you actually left the table.

Just an idea....
