| Say you are in MP in a loose passive table. 5 players (including yourself) seeing the flop for one small bet each. A non-threatening flop gives you a gutshot draw to a straight. Two players on your right are in for one small bet each. Would you call given... Pot is currently offering 7:1 Odds of hitting the gutshot on the turn is 11:1 Odds of hitting the gutshot by the river is 5:1 Can you justify continuing based on implied odds? Thanks in advance for your feedback. | ||

| I would say that you could call in this situation if two conditions are met. First, you have to be pretty sure there's not going to be a raise behind you. That may be the situation here. Second, you have to be sure that your opponents will pay you off if you hit your draw on the next card. I don't think you have the odds to call a bet on the turn, so basically your only going to see the turn card most of the time. In that case, if a couple of the players will call your bets on the turn and river(unless something crazy comes on board) then in my opinion, its ok to see the turn. Just my two nickles. | ||

| It's not inflation, it's taxes. A vice tax on thinking, kinda like the ones on smokes and booze. | ||

| Yes, you can. Since it is passive the players behind you are unlikely to raise. you probably will only have to call the small bet on the flop. And since they are loose, you're likely to get way more than the four more small bets needed to justify the call. But if you miss, you'll probably be folding on the turn. -X Writer www.pokerev.com | ||

| You can make the call here, but only if you have a good read on the table. Is somebody yet to act jumping out of their chair waiting to raise? Will these guys pay you off if you hit? Is there a flush draw on board? Remember that if there is, not only do you lose one out for your straight, but you also lose odds if you make it on the turn and get rivered by a flush. All of these things have to factor into your decision. But in principle, it is not *wrong* to call here. | ||

| I think you just take one card off for a single bet. The larger bet on the turn doesn't seem worth it. | ||

| If you are drawing to the nuts or to a hand that is very likely to win if you make it, you can continue. If there is a flush draw or pair on the board, i would muck the hand, as you may make your draw and still lose. mark | ||

| Also depends on how high your gutshot is. For instance, if you're holding JQ, and the flop is 982 rainbow like bright, you might have an extra out if a J or Q falls, further justifying your call. On the other hand, if you've got 24 and the flop is A57, now your draw to pairs are pretty much pointless, killing the idea of catching something other than your straight. Remember, though, these backdoor draws shouldn't be the main factor -- Just a little icing. If you use them to justify this, you might find yourself trying to further justify this with a potential to catch runner-runner to a flush, which increases your odds so slightly that it really shouldn't be a consideration. Oh, and again watch out for idiot end straights. 23 with a flop like 568 is just scary bad, as there are so many ways to lose it isn't funny. Drop this one like a bad date!! | ||
