| My fiance asked me an interesting question that I couldn't answer mainly because I never thought about it. Here's here question: In Texas HE, why is the last card called the river card? Any ideas would be helpful... | ||

| Poker was born on the Mississippi.........and the final card made you or busted you, so it effectively sent people up/down the river if they lost. OK, so this is complete crap, but most people will buy it if they're just looking for an answer. on 14. | I like it. I always like to think of the river as being where the fish end up. You want to find a place in the hand at a loose passive table where there is one person and a handfull of fish, that place is always the river. | ||

| The variation of 7 stud they first played on the Miss was actually called "up and down the river". The last card in that game became known as the River. The rest is history | ||
