| I'm not that smart, can someon explain this quote from TJ? And that sixth sense about what makes his opponents tick ... that innate ability to put a player on a hand ... is why his opponents fear him. It is as though he is looking at you through an invisible microscope, knowing what you are thinking, detecting your tells, delving into the inner spaces of your mind ... you know that he knows you, knows what you're going to do next. And he's going to use his encyclopedic memory of how you play to beat you. The thing that has made T. J. so successful at no-limit and pot-limit hold'em is his observation powers. "I know what Joe Blow is going to do in this situation and in that situation. That's what helps me. When I'm in a tournament with all strangers, after 15 or 20 minutes I'm going to know how they play. Say what you want, but there are people who have that ability, and there are people who don't have it. You're either born with it or you aren't. I have a knack for picking up people's tells and all the little things that they do. Caro has a book on tells, but I haAnd that sixth sense about what makes his opponents tick ... that innate ability to put a player on a hand ... is why his opponents fear him. | Hi tron I don't think he has a 6th sense, he just can't explain how he is able to read people so well. It probably has alot to do with devoting you life to poker day in and day out, thinking about in constantly and consciously reading opponents all the time for years. He did this for so long its now 2nd nature to him and he doesn't have to consciously do it any more. So now that he doesn't need to concentrate on reading his opponent but still gets reads, he thinks of it as a 6th sense. Lots of people who excel at things can't explain how they do what they do, because it's second nature to them. It's been shown that if you practise something enough, it becomes second nature, or instinct. Thats what happend to TJ mark | ||

| What TJ is calling a sixth sense is a player's ability to use all of his conscious senses to get a read on his opponent. Some people just have this ability and do it without knowing what they are doing. They'll get a feeling from you as to what cards you have without having to notice your breathing slow or your rate of blinking increase. They are still picking up on the physical, but when they do it subconsciously, it looks more like the metaphysical. | ||

| I've heard estimates that over 50% of communication is non-verbal. Players like TJ are able to read other players very well, because their subconscious puts together all the body language clues that even the best player give off, and mixing that with knowledge about how you have played all your hands previously, and sometimes they may not know why on a conscious level, but deep down they just get a feeling about what cards you have. I think this comes from many years of playing a LOT of poker. | ||
