| I've heard the 300 bb to be good for bankroll. what if u go down say in a 10/20 , (6000 bucks) and u fall to 5000, should u go down on limits? and what if u exceed the 300bb , should u go up in limits? tks | ||

| The 300 bb bankroll idea is to keep a good player from going broke at a certain limit, not a move up if you're ahead, drop down if you're behind type of thing. You should only move up if you feel you can beat, or want to see if you can beat the higher limit. You can do this in the manner you described, by taking a shot at it with some of your profit from a lower limit. But by no means should you feel obligated to move up. Many players will drop down to a lower limit after a significant loss, to reevaluate their play and/or because they can't emotionally cope with a larger loss at that level. This is very reasonable to do, and helps protect your bankroll, but by no means is necessary if you're good enough for a 300 BB bankroll to be sufficient. -X Writer www.pokerev.com | ||

| Well, if you lost 5000 playing 10/20 in one downswing, that is a very very big downswing. First, you need to evaluate your game and make sure that you are beating it. If you aren't then moving down in limits is a good idea. If you think you are beating the game, then it is time to keep playing it and see if you can't scrounge some more money to play in it from somewhere...if you're in the position where losing your bankroll means no more poker, then yeah...move down anyway. | ||

| I think he meant that he dropped down to 5000, meaning he only lost 1000. That's actually a reasonable loss if you had several bad beats, like 2nd full house, or getting a full house beat by quads or similarly horrible bet sucking situations. It is a good idea to analyze whether a loss of that size was just luck, or if you made some bad plays, or went on tilt. | ||

| Oh, if it is just losing $1000 at 10-20, that happens all the damn hell time. I've had a large number of sessions at 10-20 where I have lost $1000. Don't drop in limit just because of that small fluctuation. | ||
